Installed my new cai Intake from CAI

I thought the aluminum box and construction was supposed to be much better then plastic for heat? Also CAI says the insulation inside the box keeps engine heat out?
Plastic is better in warm weather?????

I think the point is that , yes the box keeps the heat out. But, the metal tube is more heat conductaive then plastic. So if the engine bay is really hot, you might get more heat conduction to the air as it flows through the tube.

My only question is that given the rate of air flow, how much could the metal tube heat up the air vs a plastic tube. It must be a trivial iamount in my mind.

From my carburated days, it seems like the optimal flow on our engine is what, 700 CFM or 12 CFS? Is there much time for the cold air to heat up at that rate?

I just ran outside to take a picture of mine. I've had my CAI for about a month now. I love it. I got mine for $380 shipped directly from the dealer. Install was stupid easy, too. The difference is noticeable immediately, and it hasn't thrown any codes after a month of driving it like I stole it

what type filter do they use and can you wash it ?

Put my CAI intake in a week ago. Same experience. Love it. Sounds the same as stock at idle, but step on the gas and it sounds GREAT and the throttle response seems quicker.

The instructions that came with it say it can be washed. I contacted CAI and asked about the cleaning kit they say to buy from them. James said they will be selling it on their site withing the next couple of weeks.

Here is mine..LOVE IT, however unlike most..Im not a fan of the engine cover. My philosophy is that I have this wonderful massive 6.2 liter engine and I wanna see it.. :-D

Cheapest I found it for was $390 PLUS shipping, so at least $400. If I can get that deal I may be the next one to cave in and purchase!

Have we all forgot about ADM.( shamless plug).....i've had the CAI Cai.....and when it gets hot out...it does soak.

I would alway prefer a polymer box. though i've talked at length with CAI main guy...and he is a smart man.( former Submariner engineer)
However what intake do you get when your median ambient temp is 80*-90*PLUS...? fricking So. Florida

Have had mine on for just over a month now and LOVE it. Data logged IAT's 5-10 degrees below stock intake. No bucking. No surging and No codes!

Remember the plastic stock intake with the plastic tube?

The CAI intake tube is ceramic coated and better at shielding against heat soak than the plastic tube intakes.
