Well that sux...

LOL

Well done Ford. The 5.0 is no joke.

Now we get to sit back and see how Chevy answers.

I never really liked motor trend anyway...

Notice the Challenger is down about 5mph from both cars, that tells me they are closer to that car's potential ET (this was the 5 speed auto challenger).

I think the gearing disparity is the most glaring issue that GM needs to address, hopefully this has been in process and will be ready for the 2011's with some 3.90's.
The stats they gave were for the auto, but the car they tested was the manual (a detonator yellow SRT).

I don't really like the car mags either.

I think the Challenger looks the best out of all of them, my personal opinion I might add. But I wouldn't buy it over the SS or the GT.

The only thing I really cared about in the article was testable data. I just wanted to see those numbers.

So what they are saying is the gt is only a few clicks slower than the gt500 and probably a faster track car all around? Sounds like the gt500 is a great buy.

The GT500s biggest problem is traction. Put both the GT and GT500 on a tire and the GT gets walked hard.

Definitely not.

Since they are dropping a hundred pounds of weight off the front axle of the GT500 it might help a bit.

Yep and just so happens to be the best time ever recorded for the mustang and the worst for the camaro. Traps are still about the same. Looks like they didnt care to properly launch the camaro. I wish they would show the 60ft times.

I cant argue much here except to say that Ill wait for a couple more head to head tests.

The simple fact is that on the first race the Camaro driver messed up his launch, and the Mustang took him apart.

On the second run the Camaro launched just fine, and the Mustang still won. Now this was with a L99 and its a safe bet to assume both cars were stock for comparison purposes. Thats not taking away from the Camaro..it is at a disadvantage in that race in weight (around 250 lbs heavier) and with less power to the wheels. It had an advantage in grip, but that was not able to overcome the first two disadvantages.
I saw in another powst ss2army has ran 13.4, talk about a close race.

Why thank you! There's an experience I'm not likely to be granted otherwise.

They cant do a decent burnout with a manual, that's for sure.

13.1 is far from the worst time ever recorded for the Camaro by one of these rags, for example Automobile knocked down a 13.3 seconcd 1/4.

As for this being the best Mustang 1/4 mile time, don't assume it will stay that way. I said it before and I'll say it again here, one of the major auto rags is going to knock down a 12.6 in this car and Evan Smith is going to go much, much faster than that.

Or they couldn't get the Camaro to hook up. There was a lot of banter on this board about the Mustang potentially 'having problems hooking up', but the reality seems to be the exact opposite.

That isn't going to change the status quo at this point. No magazine of any ilk has ever gotten a 12.7 from the Camaro SS, and as far as I know only two private owners have ever met or beaten that time.

Unless Chevy does something with the 2011 Camaro SS it's pretty obvious the Mustang is going to be a couple of tenths faster at least.

Same cars, same track, same day, the Mags have also gotten 13.1@109 for the SRT8, but not this day.........

Ive said it before and Ill say it again, Im not surprise to see the Mustang GT running 12.7 from MT. The solid axle rear is just a forgiving setup to launch on. A Camaro can do better than 13.1, but it not to be expected back to back with an average driver from a IRS, same for the SRT-8.

Im happy for Ford.
