Best speed for mpgs

Just curious about other v6 owners mpgs. Yesterday I was heading home and was checking my mpg. Seemed at 65 I was getting 23 to 25, but when I would go to 80 the computer would be saying numbers like 27-29. Now I know when I'm going 55 it goes anywhere from 27-35. Just wondering because on my 07 dodge I would get about 350 miles to a tank driving 75 and harder vs going 65 and only barely getting 300 miles.

I believe they say you get your best mpg when you are in your highest gear at your lowest speed.

Possibly, either that or ... 55 mph. Some say automakers tune their cars to get maximum efficiency at that speed due to the epa testing. Others say that engines are most efficient under light load (not no load), and in top gear it usually works out to around 55 mph. Either way, 55 generally seems to be the magic number (its also the slowest speed you're likely be be able to stay in 6th for extended periods of time)
