It's not always sexism, you know. Some of us assume people who drive automatics are hippies...

1. The absolute best drivers are men.
2. The absolute worst drivers are men.
3. The average man driver is better than the average woman driver.

If that doesn't make sense, think of it as a bell curve distribution. Men will be at the farthest outliers in either direction, but the average man will be a standard deviation higher than the average woman.

Of course this is just my opinion, you're welcome to check the math yourself.

After doing the calculations, I concur.

Honestly tho, were both equally good/bad drivers as well as good/bad with a manual transmission. Guys probably drive them more but that doesn't mean women don't do just as good as guys do. Some women have a mindset that they can't drive them, or they think its too hard or complicated when its really not. I'd say nearly every woman could drive one if they took the time to learn how.

I tried to teach my fiance to drive a standard. Her brother had this little Isuzu i-mark and we went out on a deserted road. She did great! until we got to the end of the road which was a dead end, and she had to turn around..... something about the low speed clutching and turning just didn't click for her, and she stalled a few times and gave up. She seemed embarassed, even though it was just me and no one was around. I tried to explain to her that EVERYONE stalls like this when they're learning, hell when I first got my camaro I stalled it a few times until I got a feel for the clutch and I've been driving standards for 10+years.

after that experience I think its all in the attitude. It's a confidence thing. For some people the fear of being embarrassed because not being good at something or screwing it up (i.e. stalling) is stronger than the will to learn a new skill. and that applies to just about everything.

My lady for instance is a nurse, and a very good one. Her grandma was a nurse, her mom is a nurse, and she has knowledge and ability that never ceases to impress me. She recently started at a new hospital because we've moved, and before her first shift there she was terrified to go to work. Because every place does things a bit different, and its a bit out of her comfort zone. She was worried she would seem incompetent to everyone else. 2 shifts in, she's very happy and I hear lots of stories about the kinds of things she dealt with (usually gory, and during supper...yay) but once she's comfortable it's unbelievable the stuff she can do.

She can deal with angry/grieving families, mangled limbs, stabbists and stabee's, drunks, meth heads and other terrifying (at least to me) day to day events..... but put her in a 5 spd isuzu and she gets embarrased/frustrated and quits... go figure

me on the other hand, I'm too stubborn to give up haha even if there is no reason for me to learn something, if I don't understand it or can't do it... that usually results in me not sleeping until I figure it out

That's a true statement right there.

I just have to say, girlfriend + sexy skirt + driving stick = AWESOME

There is no reason not to let your wife/girlfriend drive your 2010, for the reason noted above!

Worst driver I ever drove with was a guy in drivers ed years back. This guy had the coordination of an amoeba. Even worse, any time the instructer told him to turn right, he'd turn left immediately way before the actual turn, and the instructer would have to slam on the brakes to keep him from going off the road. Even worse, he could not drive in a straight line, so it was like being with a drunk driver but worse. I don't think this guy ever passed his drivers license in the next couple of years (thank God).

Of course, it can be amusing sometimes even if the stereotype is wrong:
