That is the scary thing. With how fast the 6s are becoming it is scary to think a lot of high school boys and girls will be getting these cars as their first car.

yea i agree the styling has went down the tank. i was always worried about having the fastest car but what are the chances you will ever have a mustang pull up along side of you at a stop light? who cares who is faster i am most worried about the looks

The big thing killing both the SS and V6 compared to the Stang is weight.
That's one way to look at it. The other would be weight/power ratio, which GM could improve by upping the power instead of reducing weight. Or some combination of the 2. I say that because it may be easier to increase power rather than reduce weight (at least in the V8).

In my opinion, the concern about weight in regards to handling was answered by Pedders in their big post here:

I do believe on the 5th gen it will be much easier for GM to add power to equal out or beat the Stang in power-to-weight.

And I definitely didn't want to come off as saying the SS couldn't handle or the weight alone keeps it from being able to handle.

I am sure Chevy is working on a "track pack" as we speak.

Understood, and hopefully I didn't come across that way.

Good for Ford. AMERICAN CAR=BETTER AMERICAN ECONOMY. I prefer my GM Camaro, BUT if I won a LOTTO I would have a DECKED out Mustang also. BUT probably NOT a Dodge. I ONLY like OLD Dodges, especially 1968 Charger.

Let me see, last I check both Camaro's V6 and V8 had more HP then their ford 2011 counter parts, They only thing making the Fords faster is the weight, but the engine is not as powerfull correct?

Weight and gearing give the Mustangs the advantage in '11.

And I am not sure if the numbers from Ford have been SAE-certified or not.

The V6/V8 motors are going to be within ~10 hp of each other, unless Ford is underrating the heck out of their motors, which I highly doubt.

So all chevy would need to do is find lighter parts and do some gear tuning and they are right back in first right?

The V6 mustang has better gearing (in their non CAFE tested optioned variant) and more discplacement than the V6 Camaro.

Plus, the Camaro has to lug around 20 extra pounds of fuel for every certification test.

yeah gm better strike back...i don't want to hear no damn excuses about the corvette...up the corvettes power then i don't care how you do it...just freaking do it...

and the sync does look more attractive...onstar is like 30 dollars a month...get a clue corporate get a freakin clue! no option for navigation...you guys are just being cheap and unimaginative....contact apple make an exclusive deal with them to counter the sync thing...

i'm sure Jobs would love to work with gm now that the government has a stake in it

but in the real world...before i wasn't even considering a mustang...now its actually in the maybe column because of the navigation option and the extra power...so keep that in mind when your doing your little "forumulas" about how people are too stupid for technology...we still want the friggin option

that being said those vert teases on facebook looked really really good...i could always just customize my own interior and the power and speed difference is pretty negligible and nothing a few mods couldn't take care of...granted i probably won't ever use all that power...its just nice to know you have it and your better than the competition lol

while it is true that the Camaro wasn't for sale as long, that 3 months is negated by the fact that the Camaro is a brand new/appealing design and was highly publicized in the transformers movies and a strong ad campaign.

Camaro has sold more so far in 2010, but you can expect that to change when the 2011 mustang sales pick up. The 2011 mustang has already received about 15000 pre-orders.
The Camaro also was released during a recession/depression and has the stigma of a parent company that filed for bankruptcy and was given a bailout that many people disapproved of.

If these events had not happened, you can bet that the Camaro would have seen even MORE sales.

I think the bankruptcy/bailout negates the Transformers effect.

Ummmm... he lives in the white house, so he doesn't commute.
