Post One of those question's that I would normally think are stupid...

-Warning, Long Post-

Alright, Normally, I look at people that ask for other people's opinion on this situation and think they're dumb for asking, because, their opinion is all that matters since it's their car... but... Now that I'm in their shoes, and making a very important decision in my young life, I'd like some help.
Question is: V6, or V8?
I'm looking to buy my first car, I'm only 18, I'm getting no help from parents (Money Wise) and, I need help choosing from the v6 or the v8.
First, talking to my dad, I recommended the v6 for me, and he wouldn't co-sign for the v6, He said it was a stupid idea, and I might as well get a Kia if I'm gonna get a v6. So, I basically had to spend $15,000 (About) more to get a v8.
Well, I just talked to him again, now that he calmed down a bit, about me getting the v6 over the v8, and he still recommends the v8 over the v6, but, I'm coming to you guys, because, him being into muscle cars purely for the power makes it a little biased.

Here's my situation.
I want a 2010 Camaro, Because the car just feels right to me when sitting inside of it, The car looks amazing, It was love at first sight, Before I even knew what the car was in Transformers 1, I wanted it, No, I had to have it.
Now that time time is here for me to get one, I'm stuck in this situation, My dad doesn't want me to get the v6, he's placed it deep in my head that I have to have a v8, Either one I get, He says I need at least a 5k Down Payment (Makes sense) I just want my camaro, v6 or v6, I just want it for the looks and features, so, the v6 is enough for me, but, Am I making a bad decision by choosing the v6?

V6 Pros:
Saves me nearly $200 a month on the car.
Saves me another about $200 a month on insurance.
Same great looks.
Same great car.

V6 Cons:
Low Resale Value (I'm not planning on reselling)
People will frown upon me?
In the future, When I'm older, I can't say "This 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS was my first car."

V8 Pros:
Pure Power.
Cool "SS Symbols"
Awesome Gauges in the center console.
Good Resale Value.
It's a v8...

V8 Cons:
It will cost me nearly $200 more a month for the car.
It will cost me nearly $200 more a month for insurance.

I make about $1,200-$2,000 a month doing Trailer Repair and Maintenance. (Depends on the month)
I do not pay rent, and if money get's tight, I can stay with my mom till the car is payed off (Yeah yeah yeah, 18+ and living with my mom omg such a sin) It saves me money, My GF is nearly done in High school, and will back me up 100% if I need help with the car payments in case the economy just dramatically drops more, and my mom will do anything she can to help me out if needed (She knows if my dad has to pick up any payments that the car is his till I pay it off).

Please do not flame me.
Being 18 this is a very important decision for me, and it makes it hard because my dad is so against the v6 (And what boy doesn't want to look up to his dad a bit) but, I'm all for the v6.

Thanks for all the future help in this decision!

You simply could not afford the V8.

And even a new v6 will put you in a bad position. Honestly I would get a used camaro, if that is what you want, and save for a few years.

You don't want to bury yourself financially at that age.

And I hate to tell you this but you have to plan to get $0 from your girlfriend for this car.

You're dad isn't the one buying the car you are. Do what is right for your situation. You're young, got plenty of time for huge v8's in the future. If It were me I'd wait until I was in a better financial situation to get whatever I wanted. I know it seems like every day spent without your camaro is a Terrible terrible thing but trust me, good things come to those who wait. Good luck with whatever you do.

Statistically speaking, most people here will probably tell you to buy the V8. Is that the best choice? Probably not in your situation. If you want a V8, you're probably better off buying a used 4th gen. Besides, you're 18, why do you need a brand new car?

It's the ol' practicality vs impracticality argument.

You just have to decide what is right for you. No one else can make that decision for you.

Don't do it. I say again, DO NOT DO IT. Not even the 6. You're young, build up your bank account and get it in a few years. You don't want to be car poor at your age and you don't want to have to lean on people financially. Living with your parents to afford a car sucks. I'm 23 and back with my parents temporarily (looooong story with the moral of roommates suck....really really suck) and that's bad enough. I couldn't imagine not being able to move out because of a car.

Well, Financially for me, On a bad month, I'm looking at $1,200, This car with Insurence and Car, I'm looking at about $650-$700 a month, so, I'm at $500 monthly spending money (For Gas and Food) which is plenty for me (I'll prolly only spend like $200 of that and save the rest) so, If looking at only the money of the car, I'm looking at $100 a month spending with a v8, and $500 a month spending with the v6, I'm sure a lot of you are making $60k+ annually, and I'm only making about $20k so you're thinking I can't afford it, but, back on topic.
If you were in my shoes (You know how much you love your camaros) what would you do? And, Be honest.

-Edit-
and my pay is just with my current single job, only working 3-6 hours a day I'm currently applying at multiple places to pick up a second job and If I get hired at one of the places I've put in an app for (I exceed all the requirements) I'm looking at 30-40k annually

If you get sick or something unforeseen happens, you're boned. You need to have enough money in your bank account (cash not credit) to survive without a job for 3-6 months. Don't do it dude, seriously. Move out, get a good job, get stable....then do it. Don;t start your adult life in a hole

I don't like the 3rd and 4th Gen's, I only like the 1st, 2nd and 5th gen, I'm really picky, which I know is stupid.

-Edit-
And with the first and 2nd gen's the only ones I like are the ones that turn around and cost 30k anyways...

Well, please don't take this wrong, Because I don't mean it offensive in any way, but, I'm young and Naive, Not getting one or the other is out of the question for me. Stupid... Probably, and I'm sure my dad knows that. Either way, I know he won't let me fail, if he HAS to pick up the car for a little to help me out, that's fine, as long as I pay him back, and don't leave the car up to him, He says "If I have to pay for more than half of the car, it's coming to Cali with me, until you have me payed off, I don't care if it's 10 years from now. I'll get you a $500 get around car for work till than" and, I'm not planning on that, I'm a very hard working "Kid" and I will do whatever it takes to make these payments.

Don't put yourself in a bad financial spot, you'll regret it down the road. Even the v6's aren't cheap so it sounds like you'll be on a tight budget if you decide to get it.
But I'm going to assume that you've already calculated it out on paper and made up a budget for both cars with the options you want; including your insurance, any bills you might have, money to go out, xtra money in case something happens, money for school.
1. Can you afford either one?
2. Which car do you want?
3. Are you settling?
If you can only afford one then your options are pretty limited. If you want the one you can't afford then see question 3. It's ultimately up to you.

i was just in your situation in many ways but i went for the v6.

i'm 17 and i actually just got a camaro two days ago!! probably the happiest morning of my life =))))) haha

i got a 2LT v6 used (only 1 owner, none of that rental business) for only $23,800 total.

thats nearly 10 to 15 grand cheaper than the v8, gets better gas mileage, looks the same to probably 80% of the population... <--- i know any camaro5 member could tell the difference in about half a second but most of the population couldnt... still is rather powerful (304 hp), lower insurance, lower payments, and is a really fun car to drive even without the v8.

i say go for the v6!!! we still have the rest of our lives to get v8s when we can better afford them =)

edit: just realized i guess i have to find some way to change my username lmao =D
