almost a half second at the quarter is nothing to sneeze at. while i think a good driver in the Camaro could school an average driver in a mustang, take two average drivers, and the mustang will win consistently. :(

Consistent, huh?

in this video from motortrend, the 540hp GT500 ran a 12.8 and the Camaro ran a 12.9

and now you're telling us that motortrend is saying that a 412hp GT ran a 12.7 after they tested Ford's stallion of the stable telling you it went 12.8?

To each their own, i guess! Some of us actually drive the cars. Others just read about them!

The GT500 couldnt get grip to save its life in that test.

Real world results have seen the GT500 turn in low 12 second times on average, with a driver who knows what he (or she) is doing.

Evan Smith has went 11s in a stock GT500.

Heck he would be the one to get the best stock mag times out of the Camaro I just don't think he has tried yet.

I honestly want to see what he gets out of the 5.0.

not to change the subject to much or anything...but i think its kinda funny how in '93 the z28 camaro could eat a mustang cobra alive, now the gt model is neck and neck with the ss, i guess ford got sick of living in the shadow lol

True, but in fords world sales come before any horsepower war... and they def. did that right because the mustang was never discontinued.

The crazy thing is the 2003 Cobra might still be a better performer than the new 5.0 and SS.

actually, the 93 Cobra's were equally fast as the 93 Z28's. The 94-95 Cobra's took a hit with the weight gain from the body syle change and a loss of power from a revised (more restrictive) intake in order for the engine to fit properly (too tall) in the SN95.

It doesn't matter who has the most hp. It is cool to see that muscle cars are back with a vengeance from all three manufacturers. It don't think the Camaro will get an increase in hp, the base Corvette was upped to 430hp just to have more power than the Camaro.

In 98 they did a front-end freshen up(which looked like a wide mouth bass by the way IMO) and added the LS1. I had a 97Z and loved the look of that car compared to the 98-02's, but the LS1 would have been nice to have in it.
If I remember correctly, 93-98 had the LT1. 99-02 had the LS1. 93-97 had the cheese wedge front. 98-02 had the bass fish mouth thing. Which means the 1998 had the new fascia and the old engine.

you are also forgetting that the 96-97 Cobra's were just as fast as the LT1's of those years. The 99,01 Cobra's were a notch below the LS1's, but Chevy still hasn't made a ponycar that matches an 8 year old Cobra.

But if you look back a generation, the Fox bodies used to eat thirdgen Fbodies alive...

Hey now, you're comparing base model Z28's to Cobras? Come on...

Then again, we didn't really have a higher-end model at the time unless you count the SLP models, the "ram air" of the SS's was really just for show.

true, to some extent. it does almost start to turn into the GT500 vs. SS debate, but not quite at that level.

but then again, the Camaro's have always been more expensive than the GT's too.
