Are you saying that the power window motors have never been replaced? I don't believe it!

Thank you all for your responses. I am really looking forward to having this car and making it last for a long time. I am not familiar with GM's Warranty, does it void the warranty if you give it an exhaust, and headers?

I should have specified 0 engine issues. I have had to replace the power window motors. When I think of reliability, I mostly think of the engine running fine.

Yeah but those motors are expensive. On the GTP it was 450.00 per window. I may check and see what kind of extended warranty I can get with the car and if the price is right get it.

Okay that makes sense. Cars can be have a reliable drivetrain but still be a piece of crap. I used to own an Audi GT coupe and drivetrain and suspension wise, the car was solid but I had so many electrical issues with it, it was a nightmare. Only thing I have owned that was worse reliability wise was a 1983 Chrysler Imperial. That was fantastic to drive but it was another electrical nightmare.

my friends A4 has an AC controller that freezes and the controls stop responding...you have to turn the car off to get the controls to respond again

Exhaust shouldn't void warranty, assuming catback. I don't know about headers though.

I hope they have had to work on them. Assuming they found most of the bugs, that means they will be working on my car that much less, if at all.

I agree. My last GM was a 1987 Grand Am SE V6. I had to make a yearly trip to Pep Boys so I could exchange the alternator for one that worked... It did make it about 230K miles before the engine gave out so I really don't have any complaints. I expect this car to be lightyears better in terms of quality.

The inverse is true also -- if you do beat it to death and don't maintain it, it's not going to last long no matter what nameplate it wears.

Who buys a Toyota? People with basic needs, who aren't looking for excitement, and want a car to last forever. How do they treat it? They drive slow and smooth and maintain it perfectly. Of course it's going to last a long time!

My dad's Toyota (which he bought brand new) has been a disappointment. It has had lots more problems than my similar model GMC, and even one dangerous problem that ended up being a safety recall. My mom's Acura (which she bought brand new) had gremlins that they were never able to fix. My GMC is still running pretty much like new, with a few minor repairs along the way, now approaching 180,000 miles.

Is it just slowing down? The driver's side window in my GMC slowed, and eventually was unable to close. A year ago, I opened up the door panel, greased the tracks, and it's like new to this day.

I wish I had known how to do that stuff years ago. I paid a lot for a window motor to be replaced in my Grand Am, and the replacement sounded like a mack truck in my door. I bet it just needed grease. Why can't GM use better grease or a regulator design that isn't as finicky?

I had a Nissan Maxima- No Problems
Ford Mustang Foxbody- No real problems but the motor and tranny were built when I got it
Honda Accord- 0 Problems
Subaru WRX- Blown Tranny 2x, blown head gasket, traded in
Cadillac CTS- Presently no problems

I have a lot of faith in american cars and at the worst they are usually much cheaper to fix.

I was just on JD Power's website and for dependability, Lexus was 1st with 120 problems/100 vehicles over 3 years. Very nice. At the bottom of the list was Land Rover with 344/100 over 3 years. The industry average is 206 problems per 100 vehicles. Relative to each other thats a pretty big gap: Land Rovers have nearly 3x as many problems. But in reality, it means maybe 1 more trip to the dealership each year. Not a big deal. Particularly when lots of people go to dealerships more often than that to get their oil changed. Besides, in the first 3 years it should all be covered under warranty anyway.

My family had a '98 Suburban that we beat the hell out of, put like 150k miles on it in like 5 years, and did a little amateur off-roading in it, and had no major problems. I love American cars, but I do not by any means hate imports.

But can you really compare a luxury sedan to a pretty capable 4x4? Who's to say that the Land Rover owners aren't out in the woods with their vehicles?

Would those Toyota problems have included the drive shaft breaking, random acceleration, or the camshaft snapping? I assume you're Dad bought a Tundra? Unfortunately, each one of those problems is just as important (from a technical standpoint) as a window motor malfunctioning or excessive wind noise.
