something to think about: maybe GM opened up the early ordering when they did so they could get an idea of how many V8s vs. V6s they need to plan on building for the launch... and maybe they're watching closely so they know what parts to have on hand.

I would hardly classify this as news. As someone posted earlier, it is not on Chevylaunch. That is the only source at this time that is credible.

I haven't ordered yet. However, Now I'm seriously considering it. I really want to see in person, touch and drive what I'm putting my hard earned money on first.

I think that GM should make more V8's first since there is more demand for them already and I'm sure that when the camaro comes out more of the non enthusiast will see it and want the V6 but hopefully the SS instead. I know that I am getting a 2SS at least but not sure on the options yet.

I assume you'll be waiting until late next year then.

2ss has all the options standard. . . unless you are talking RS package, rims, ground effects, etc.

Reasons to get the auto:

1) No worn out clutches or missed shifts, fewer problems overall

2) Faster than manual - in quarter mile - (per Chevrolet)

Formula One racers use automatics - once again - faster

Who would have thought the bulk at first would be V8's? EVERYONE. Here's a company struggling greatly, and they may load their lots with V6's they can't sell, just like they just did with the G8. Please change the SS availability at launch. Ed Pepper said there would be mostly V8's built for the enthusiasts, then gas prices shot up, and now GM has rethought the mix. I say, rethink it again.

Number 2 your just simply missinformed about the manual is faster, the automatic however will definitely be more consistent (perfect for bracket racing)

Fomula one racers do not use an automatic, they use a sequential gearbox with paddle shifters, an electronically controlled manual transmission.

But the automatic as I said before is more consistant about reliability, I have personally had more problems with automatics than manuals.

If you do get an automatic then you will be taking away the fun and spirit of driving a true sports car like the Camaro SS. Manual is the only way to go and it also saves you money when you order one. So that means that you can spend more the other goodies you want in the car.

OK - about #2, the GM engineer I quoted in a earlier post must be wrong and you're right - I'll let him know. But then again maybe you should provide some test data as he did.

Formula racers: When a button is pushed and a gear change occurs I call it "automatic". It may be a different form of automatic but it sure isn't a manual as most understand it.

It's considered a manual because it has clutch plates as opposed to a torque converter.

About the GM engineer that was changed after further testing word came from a GM engineer in a more recent post, but that's okay I'm not really here to argue.
