Hey guys....I just re-purchased my 87 IROC Z28. and as most of you know this one came with the TPI 305 HO and that just isnt going to do it for me....Now i would like to drop an ls1 in it for the extra power...What will need to be done to replace the 305 HO with the 5.7 ls1.......I was born in 87 HAHA so im not real sure how strong these vehicle were built as far as rear end and stuff....So a little information would be awesome....Also im stuck between keeping it fuel injected or making it carb ......
Thanks again DAN/WICKEDSS |

We need pics...and if the car is in really good shape...you may want to leave it alone. Maybe find another Camaro to swap in the LS1 into? IROC's will be worth money some day if they are still intact. I personally have been looking for a clean third gen because I had two previously and would love to put one away for posterity.
Check the forums though...LS1 swaps are fairly common. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/lt...on-answer.html |

BlueZee28 has a thread on here about his LSX swap. Check it out. I plan on doing this myself in the near future.

well, i can tell you. if you do swap the LS1 into it, the rear will hold up. I don't know for how long. but my 86 that had a v6 now has the Carb'd LS1, you will need to get LS1 third gen motor mounts, http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ls...tormounts.aspx that is where i got my stuff.
whatever you do. just do it right the first time and keep everything clean, UNLIKE i did. i still have ALOT of work to do with the car because i took a couple short cuts just to get the thing running. 3 years with the car down and out is a LONG time. but this swap made the car FUN good luck whatever you do
