Just test drove both V6 and V8!!
Hi folks. Awesome car, awesome site.
So I just test drove a manual 2ss, and an auto LS and oh boy, the difference was unbelievable. The V6 wasn't bad or anything, but it certainly felt strange after driving the V8. I'm thinking about buying a Camaro in a month or so, and still not 100% sure which engine/transmission I want. I just felt uneasy and uncomfortable in the LS. I don't know, maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was an auto. It was black exterior and black interior so it also felt a bit claustrophobic in there which might have contributed to the general lack of satisfaction. So, any thoughts on this? Your help is greatly appreciated, Thanks |

The V8 is awesome compared to the V6. But you didn't do a fair comparison. If you know how to drive a manual (which you do), you have to drive the V6 manual.
That being said, you need the V8, buddy. Go get it! And have a lot of fun.

I think you're right! I should definitely try the V6 manual and then make a decision.

If you're unsure, try to find a manual LT and drive it if you're on the fence about the 2 different cars. I wouldn't even consider an LT, but that's my preference. Chevy didn't expect the SS to be as hot of a seller as it is and was expecting more folks to opt for the V6 models. There's a reason the SS is the more popular car, and you've figured it out. Since you've experienced the V8, it is going to be harder to look at the V6. If the SS isn't out of your budget, I'd go for it. A manual SS is liklely to hold it's resale value better than a manual LT.

SS manual is the way to go but I am alittle biased. lol Good luck in whatever you choose. They are all great cars,V6 or V8.

I test drove the V6 first and was amazed at the power GM was able to get out of a V6 but after I drove the V8 and seen what it could do I knew I would always regret not going with the V8. It's really all about what your preference is and what you can afford. Good Luck!

I personally use 93. I'd rather pay the extra 30 cents a gallon for peace of mind. |

I am the internets.

You gain nothing by filling up with 91-93 if the computer is calibrated to run on 87. If you want to spend a little more for peace of mind, just get 87 from a reputable station--not a mom and pop shop.

I drove all 4 different combinations that you can get v8 auto and man and v6 auto and man.
I am not one that likes to just go fast in strait lines I love to road race and in missouri there is not a strait road. My opinion is that the v8 is so much heavier and it have horrible under steering, I was not able to take corners as fast in the v8 then what I was able to take them in the v6 and auto to manual I went with auto, mainly because of the response and also getting the steering wheel shifters, and I do alot of city driving so a man would be a pain. |

Thanks for all the info guys. I will be driving the car daily so it's definitely something to consider.
I'm going to give the V6 manual a shot and then make up my mind. |

I actually drove both and while the V8 is obviously more powerful, I opted for the V6 (well plus synergy wasn't a V8 option this year) because I learned my lesson with my SS trailblazer. I was spending more on gas than my car payment was.
Guess its just a preference... I'm happy with what I got and I'm sure you will be too whatever you choose!
