nice, but camaro had summer tires and mustang had all seasons. nice anyway, but tires do a lot. they are probably more even than previously thought though

Guess edmunds is the choice review now, forget that 12.7 that the other magazine ran with the car, pfft. let's make pretend it didn't happen, 2011 GT def. run 13.3 and that's it.

What are you talking about?

You are doing the SAME EXACT THING by only mentioning the motor trend review. Why is that more important? Because it favors the mustang?

Car and Driver and also Inside line both had the camaro faster. Only motor Trend ran the 12.7.

This has no significance? Give me a break.

The Mustang may not pack the Camaro's visual firepower, but it's an easy car with which to live.
On the quarter-mile at Auto Club Speedway in lush, parklike Fontana, California, IL's long-term Camaro SS whomped to 60 mph from a standstill in just 5.1 seconds with the traction control turned off (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). The full quarter-mile went by in 13.1 seconds at 110.4 mph.

Our red Mustang GT (on all-season Pirelli P Zero Nero tires) matched the Camaro SS's blast to 60 mph by hitting that speed in an identical 5.1 seconds from a standstill with the traction control turned off (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout). But the quarter-mile took another two-tenths to complete with a slightly lower trap speed, 13.3 seconds at 107.3 mph.

That's a razor-thin advantage for the Camaro and, just to throw in some additional ambiguity, we also tested another Mustang GT (this one in blue and wearing summer tires), which ripped to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and blitzed the 1,320 feet in 13 seconds at 110.6 mph. That's the kind of razor's edge that can be measured in microns.
Difficult to hook up leaving the line. Wants to bog or boil, so best launch with minimal wheelspin from about 2,500 rpm. Big rubber on 2-3 and 3-4 upshift

They complained about the tires the whole time, then said the one they ran with summer tires ran "13 seconds at 110.6 mph"

Hardly supporting the notion that the mustang is slower than expected.

The blue car was from its initial testing and was not on the same day. The camaro also ran a 13.0 in its initial tests with edmunds as well.

I have never said slower than expected. Its just funny to see that now 2 out of the 3 tests done on the same day between the two cars actually show the camaro as being slightly faster. (C&D/edmunds=camaro, motortrend=mustang). Also all the other numbers that were not from the same day comparison testing show the camaro as fast or faster as well in all comparisons except motor trend.

All in all it is a very close race and it is great to see some of the mustang fanboys eat their words. We were hearing about getting spanked for months now and that just isnt the case.

Easy there, just saying' which ever one you choose to take as a real performance figure it up to you. since "only motor trend" ran 12.7 I guess it doesn't count? I'm not sure I am following your logic. but that's OK

In your opinion what would you say it the fastest the new GT can run?

Never said it didnt count.

Why is a test showing a faster time for the mustang any more significant than one showing a slower one? and vice versa....you are doing/did the same thing.

But as it stands...if this was a court case....2 out of 3 tests favor the camaro that were done on the same track on the same day.

Dont get me wrong though...If I had to guess I would say the mustang would most likely be slightly faster. The main reason I posted this is to show that mag times can be all over the place and dont really mean a whole lot. In the end I look mostly at the traps the cars have been putting up across all tests and they are virtually dead even. (if you get the good tires and gears on the stang)

Come on guys. There was all this hype that the new Mustang was gonna kick ths SS's ass.
More and more tests are coming in to show that is just not the case. These cars perform
at nearly identical levels. Can't we just agree on that. They are BOTH kick ass muscle cars and that's all I gonna say. Long live the muscle car wars.
