CF hood and CAI
so i was wondering, if you got a aftermarket hood like the Seibon Carbon Fiber hoods, would a cold air intake still work if its using the weather striping to keep a seal, or would you have to go with a self contained CAI like CAI inc, or something thats by the radiator like Vararam or volant. not really sure if the aftermarket hood will conform the same way as stock to make sure hot air isn't just coming in

i have read threads that say they will work, but if you are serious about getting one,i would check with the mfg.or like you said just put the CAI inc.on it.

was also wondering, if you get the hoods with the Heat Extractor does it matter if it doesn't create a seal because its getting fresh air anyways. i'm still kind of new to this whole modding thing and mostly just spend countless time reading threads about over the radiator or the normal cia that replace the original box

Go with the ADM. Great looking, adds hp, it is self contained and doesn't require a seal, Andy is great to work with and because I said so!!!

Well, I think the question is more along the lines of what I want to know. I have an ADM Street CAI and now have a RK Sport Ait induction hood that bring fresh air "over" the airbox. Would it be beneficial to open up the ADM cover to allow the fresh air in the top as well?
Then, if so, should I make some sort of seal so no engine heat gets in? Is any of that worth it? That is one of the reasons I went with a functional hood - which also has heat extractors. I believe that is what the OP is asking - please correct me if I am wrong. If not, then it is my question ![]() Thanks!

so let me just make sure i'm getting this right before i actually start doing stuff. if i'm going to get an air scoop or heat extractor then i won't really need a heat shield or anything along those lines or a unit thats self contained. is that the correct thinking? or should i still get a CAI that has a heat shield but don't have to worry as much about the weather stripping not making a tight enough seal against an aftermarket hood

Good question...if I open up my ADM CAI top, there is about 4" from that to the air output from the hood...I was going to try and rig something up, but am not sure how I would seal that large of a gap...

We haven't tested any aftermarket hoods for the Camaro, but our hood seal has done well with aftermarket hoods for other makes. On a HEMI application the owner installed the hood seal on our box without fully engaging the top edge. This allowed the hood seal to be about 3/8" higher than normal. He then closed the hood allowing it to push down the hood seal as needed. As the hood approaches the fenders and nose, it must adjust to a profile similar to stock for good alignment-I think that's why our systems tend to work out with various hoods. Further, most of the hoods we have dealt with used an inside panel which was made from a "splash" taken from the factory hood.
This is no guarantee our intake will seal with all aftermarket hoods-just sharing our experience with this situation. Hopefully, we will have some customer feedback from Camaro owners to share in the near future. |
