*Dons Flame suit* I built my first house at 24. I am currently in my second home, with the land purchased for my 3rd at 30 years old. I have money left over for a new vehicle every couple years, trips, snowmobiles, etc. A person who is out of college and working full time should get their own place. I mean the posts about picking up girls in the hot car...Where do you take these girls..... home to watch wheel of fortune with mom and dad? |

i just recently sold my house to start my own company... yes i had to move back in with the parents, but it is a great opportunity to get ahead and not having to worry about rent and utilities... ive had my share of cars when i was younger, but those days are over... while it does bore me to only have a work truck, i know my day is coming back around and what i will be driving will be 10x better than a Camaro or any car i had in the past...
it's funny cause i look around and see the people who had their fast cars in HS and college.. you know what, they're still driving a fast car, but the condition of their life is so unbalanced... most of them either live at home with the parents still or they rent some $750+ month apartment/house... but they still have a fast car with all the friends!!

You can sleep in your car, but you can't drive your house to work.

I'd tell him "shut the **** up, you worry about your financial decisions and I'll worry about mine"
normally i wouldn't be that blunt right off the bat but if the guy keeps on and on about it then he needs to be told.

I love some of your responses, lol.
Im 38, the guy at work is 36. I have experienced home ownership before, was a bad deal but I was young and dumb. Hint: don't buy a vinyl village house and expect to come out ahead. The prices of them have never increased. Probably will again when the right deal comes along on my terms. Right now I rent a 3 bedroom 2 car garage home off a guy I know, yeah its 700 a month I throw away, but I threw away 1000 a month when I owned a home, and got out of it without making a dime after 10 years. I was lucky I didn't have to pay to sell it. I can afford a house without selling my car. Selling car would make for huge chunk of downpayment though. Just because your home is 20-30% paid for when you buy it doesn't mean you made a chunk when you sell, you are just getting your money back. A big downpayment can be a risk, when property values can change like the wind. Also, Im not sure I want to plow that deep in Indiana. If I found some great job in another state I could pack up and leave. I own no home, no wife, no kids. I could get by with a crappier car, but I don't want to right now. |

I had bought my toys when I was still working though LOL Plus my father has been working out of town the last few years, so it's been good to be here with my mother to help her out around the house. But believe me as soon as I start working again and get settled... I'm moving out LOL I can come over after work or on weekends to help with the property...I never understood this. He who dies with the most still dies and can't take any of it with him... just leaves it for the family to deal with LOL

I was only kidding anyway. This kid will get his own place and have his Camaro. He doesn,t seem like a lazy guy. I could buy my 17 year old a car but I want him to earn it. He will take it to his first house/apt. When he comes here with his Gfriend he can watch whatever he wants. I want him to enjoy his youth more than I did. Gotta go wheel of fortune is on. |

I get that talk from people at times. i own a Harley and now my Camaro, people tell me I should own a house. It's silly, a lot of times that kind of talk comes from people who have regrets when it comes to the way their life played out and all they are doing is projecting that onto you. rock on with the Camaro and the bikes. Stay safe out there and enjoy life. |
