They asked me to put $500 down as a deposit; I would have put up to 2k down had they required it; I plan on putting between 6-7k down in the long run. It's a question of how much you want them to "use" your money for how long. If you plan on ultimately putting 1k, 5k, 10k down anyways it probably doesn't matter except that you don't have use of the funds in the meantime.
