I'm having a hard time believing this. The 2010 GT500 is basically even in a straight line with a standard Corvette C6 (both clocking in around 11.8 at their hero runs). This means that this lost 120 lbs and revised suspension DRASTICALLY improved its handling limits, and the relatively small HP increase most likely made it faster in a straight line. Even still, the Z06 should have a comfortable advantage in a straight line over the GT500, which leads me to believe that the new 2011 GT500's handling is absolutely incredible lol.

And regarding that list, how did the heavier 2010 GT500 convertible clock in a time that is also ~9 seconds faster than the 2010 GT500 coupe?

Well, take any road course comparisons with a grain of salt. Track conditions, driver and even more important the matching of a drivers ability to the right car, all play a huge roll. Although, it is a testament to the level of performance ford is attacking with the car. I have a feeling that we are going to find the '11 GT500 is massively underrated from a power standpoint and on par with the best (at it's weight) from a handling standpoint. They went all out on this car. I wouldn't expect the gt500 to beat z06's around a road course more often than not, but I would expect the '11 gt500 to be a major competitor in the performance car market.

Well, the GT is pulling near 1G on the pad... The handling of the gt500 is probably incredible by 2+2 coupe standards. Not by z06 standards, don't get me wrong, I to would have a hard time believing that, although it's possible. I am more inclined to assume the car is underrated big time. If the car is making >500rwhp, with it's weight loss, revised suspension and better weight distribution, it could be a monster. The s197 chassis is a VERY good starting point to build a monstrous machine. We'll just have to wait and see more results.

I'm more inclined to believe that driver, weather, and other conditions were at play more than the car itself. To me, that list lost its validity considering the heavier, unchanged 2010 GT500 convertible posted a ~9 second faster time than its coupe counterpart.

i dont see how its not believable, the GT500 does have 550hp and lost 100lbs of the nose.
this also was a SVT track pack option car, its actually slightly lighter that a stock GT500.
the optional rims are larger and lighter than stock, and you get better tires and 3.73 gears.

Tires. Some part of that 9 second difference is tires. The tires on the 2010 gt500 are horrid imho. The weight difference of the 2011 coupled with the better tires and suspension upgrades and 9 probably sounds about right.
