Body Rattle ?

So here is what a guy in town here (Fargo ) told me when I asked him about options .

" Called a few in town and nobody will touch the camaros and they do not recommend after market exhaust/catback systems because you end up with a body rattle after it's installed and headers he said are a whole other story. he has 2 friends with the new camaros that put catbacks on and the 1 has had it back to gateway several times for the rattle and they told him its the catback and that is why they do not recommend after market exhaust installation on them. another freind installed a catback and ended up taking it back off and sending it back because of the rattle "

What is he talking about ?

aftermarket exhaust might touch (causing a rattle) on the oem tunnel brace. Nothing a few extra washers or an aftermarket brace can't fix.

when you put on some full cat back exhaust systems the pips are lower than stock usually so when you go over a bump the exhaust pipse move and hit the cross member brace and you get a rattle. you can either raise your exhaust with a little cutting or you can put bigger spacers on the cross member brace to space it more so it doesn hit. i had the same problem and i went with option b and just put spacers

yeah, the 'big problem' can be solved with about 2 bucks worth of longer bolts and some washers

Make sure you pick a tunnel brace that is designed to drop down in the exhaust pipe area. I believe there are several TB's out right now and some do, while some don't.

See this post for the brace. Just bought one since I put on a Magnaflow cat back last week and have the rattle.

Just the answer I was looking for! I just installed Flowmaster AT's cat back and I knew what the rattleing was since I put it on myself. Its sitting directly on top of the tunnel brace, just enough to catch some vibration and rattle.

had the same problem the guy who installed just bent the brace so it had a curve in the middle. doesn't look half bad.

That defeats the purpose of the brace though. That brace isn't rigid but it doesn't have to be since it's there to stop lateral movement. Now that it's bent, it can bend more with lateral movement.

MBRP systems come with a new tunnel brace - no rattle. Sounds to me like the biggest problem with aftermarket exhaust systems is the installers not the manufacturers.
