My dad has almost 240K on his 96 LT1 And still drives, kinda great... Maintenance is key and it will last, as long as you take good care of it.

I BOUGHT the car to commute about a hundred miles a day in. For me, if I've gotta drive that far I wanna enjoy it. I used to hate my morning/afternoon drive. Now I look forward to it, literally!!!!

I was looking into buying a Jetta TDI for practical purposes and jumping back into a Camaro maybe in 2012 when the convertible comes out.

Is there any reason to think the Camaro couldn't hold up going 20,000 miles a year? I know they use this engine on the CTS so it's not brand new. I guess I am just fixed in my ways thinking a sports car can't rack up 120,000 miles in 4-5 years and still run great. I look at it like a fun weekend car or car you take on trips. Not something to rack up 100 highway miles daily on...

What do you guys think?

I had a 95 formula with 125K+ miles that still ran like a scalded cat... 1996 Corvette with 110k miles on it...still runs good. Our 2002 Corvette had 97k on it when we sold it at 7 years old. The car can handle it...as long as you maintain it properly.

I'd also caution you on VW...my wife's Jetta was a nice enough car when it was new, but as it approached 100K miles, things started going out, and EVERYTHING was so expensive. Dealership wanted $1200 to replace a catalytic converter. Same job cost me less than $200 on my '91 Camaro.

I wouldn't worry about putting miles on the car from a reliability standpoint. It's true you could probably get better mileage in a different car, but how much will you spend to sell your car and get a different one? Especially if you buy another new car...then you've taken the initial depreciation hit on two different cars. Probably not worth the money you'll save in gas!

You said it yourself...

Buy a cheap commuter car. You could drive the Camaro to work every so often too. That's what I'd do.

I've had mine almost 8 months to the day, and I rolled over 20,000mi yesterday. I drive 120mi to work and back 4 days a week. It's seen some high mile trips aswell.

What VW has become is not at all what Hitler had in mind for his "people's car", huh?
