manual-transmission E-ROD package:
Flywheel (12571611)
Pilot bearing (12557583)
Pressure plate (24255748
Release bearing (19210297)

I'd try to get them all, your flywheel may not be heat damaged so thats iffy.

WARNING

For everybody with a goofy clutch, the ones that will stick the clutch pedal 1/2 way down and not fully engauge on an agressive slipper launch and ANYBODY that has trouble shifting to second at 5000+ RPM.

I have read where a few People said their trans is shifting good now that the updated clutch has been installed. And, that may be true. But my trans would not shift above 5000 to second gear, just grinds. I assumed the trans was OK and that it was just a warped clutch disc not fully dis-engauging that caused the trans to not shift to second at high RPM and that may still be true, but my Trans was damaged. So, yes my Trans had unintentional abuse, but that was directly caused by the clutch. I never personally missed a gear. Repeat, I never missed a gear. Just grinded it once when the clutch was slipping and I did not know it and when the clutch was hot and not disengauging on the shift to second as I have seen many others post.

Well, the TECH working on my car took my trans apart and the 2nd gear syncros and blocker rings (not sure of exact terms) were trashed. He took me in the back and showed me the parts and my trans completely taken apart. The Brass part was all worn down and scored and the steel piece was worn and had blue spots on the outside.

I am so glad this dealer did not second guess me in any way and decided on their own to take my Trans apart.

Did you have a skip shift eliminator? or where you forcing it into 2nd under normal driving conditions?
or none of the above?
Just wondering.

LOOK, the skip shift feature has NOTHING to do with this issue. If you think it does, I ask that you educate yourself or just kindly remove yourself from this discussion.

Thanks.

OMG
how many times do i have to explain myself to people. If you don't want my help, that's fine. I will leave everyone alone, because at this point it's like talking to a brick wall.

that's what made me ask about skip shift. The fact that your synchros are "trashed".

But whatever.

everyone have a nice day.

Well my car went to the dealer today and they are replacing the parts with the updated pressure plate. The service writer called to tell me they are also replacing the flywheel. We'll see how it all works out here in the next few days.

Probably one of the dumbest features ever created for the Camaro/Corvette, in no way are these stock driveline parts like the driveshaft and axles capable of high RPM clutch dumps. One of my friends works at a large Chevy dealer, and he always tells me about the stories that start with "I was just trying the launch control like the owner's manual says..... and then there was this big bang...."
Dually noted. I've been pretty hesitant to try it out and haven't yet. I'm gonna just stick to doing some 2.5k launches. I start getting some spin once I get into the 3k range, anything higher I'm sure will smoke the hell out of those Pirellis.

I wonder if there is any way to turn down the RPM that launch control holds via a tune...

I've put another couple hundred miles on it with some spirited driving in the midst of it and my clutch is still tip-top. Dare I tip my hat to GM for recognizing a problem and nipping it in the bud?

My opinion DON'T USE LAUNCH CONTROL!! I ran 5 tenths slower the same night trying it 3 times!! Hold down the button and turn everything off u will run way faster!!! Learn how to feather the clutch and do it the real way! I ran 12.82 with just borla mufflers turning it all off! 12.64 with just tune and intake and all on STOCK TIRES! The traction control bogs the motor down too much even with just a little spin!

I don't plan on doing launches or taking the car to the track but I wonder if I should get my clutch replaced. What do you guys think?

I would not do it if that were the case. You are part of the 95% of people that will never "discover" the problem with the clutch. Just drive your car and enjoy it. In my Opinion, the dealer may actually CAUSE more problems that they will fix in many cases. So it is a crap shoot.

I am doing my clutch because my trans would not shift to second above 5000 RPM. I would have never done it otherwise. Of course my clutch would stick on a high RPM slipper launch too. But in normal driving my car/clutch was PERFECT. I was just living with it and I nearly did not take it in. I hope it goes back together OK and I am happy with it. Cross your fingers

Thanks,

Just got my car back this evening. New clutch, pressure plate, slave and flywheel all compliments of GM. I didn't have to argue or fuss, the dealer took it in on Monday and did all the work. There were no charges to me on the parts or labor for the clutch assembly. The pedal feels a little spongy but it may be because the clutch comes up a lot less before engaging. Either way I plan on bleeding the clutch this weekend. Once it's broken in I will do a couple launches and see how it does. I will get it to the tack in the next couple weeks too.
