I take it the threadstarter would prefer to live his life in the jungle with no modern amenties and no toilet paper or modern plumbing or clean water as well.

Oil doesn't kill people , people kill people. Anyhow really? If you feel that way then anything and everything that consumes oil and/or is made from oil needs to be discontinued. Lets stop using plastics see how that goes, are you going to stop using your iphone or ipad or your playstation? Look up what products are made from oil see if you can live with out them. Don't know how Canada is but part of your electricity most likely comes form burning oil or some other fossil fuel. Ignorance is bliss but realize you need to understand the whole picture and not blame one product that consumes oil but all the consumers out there literally.

Wind turbines change the balance of nature by killing birds ,but everyone calls them green. Oh and wait until the day one of those 60ft props flies off and kill someone or take out a building. How green will that be.

62 Million may be leaked but thats natural. It's is not 62 Million gallons in one spot.

This thread should be moved to the "off-topic" portion of the forum. Sure, its somewhat related to the Camaro, but its mostly about the oil spill, and someone's concern about the environment.

Plugging cars in burns fuel, too. In fact, using your computer to write this post on Camaro5 burns fuel. Don't say "oh, its just a little bit," either, because you'd be negating your initial reasoning for quitting to drive the camaro. after all, every little bit makes a difference, right?

Just enjoy your car. I promise, the animals won't be pissed at you for it.

...and it still takes oil to build that lovely electric car and the total electric car will put a great load on the coal fired power plants to keep 'em charged. Eventually you will have to replace those huge batteries with new ones that takes oil to build as well as a lot of cash. I don't know if there is a way out of using oil except going back to cave man days but I'll leave that up to people much smarter than I.

Actually many wind turbines dont kill birds, new designs. Changing the composition of a natural substance, loading it with chemicals, then putting it into the atmosphere where it would never have been in the first place throws nature out of balance. Oil is a natural occurring substance yes, but when you remove it from nature and change it, it is no longer natural.

I'm really sorry, but I can't help but think that you are being really "microscopic" about a vehicle... If you are going to stand on a principle, then stand on it with every aspect of your life. I can't help but to think.."you bought the cow...you want the
milk...but you don't want to milk the cow"....

With just the small things I do EVERYDAY in my house, I am reducing my carbon footprint MORE than you would by just getting rid of your car. Too microscopic IMO.

Again, I applaud your direction and respect your choice, but you are being very microscopic about the big issue.

IBTL.

And you can always sell your Camaro for one of these if you're that worried about it...

No of course not. Oil is a complete necessity in our lives. Oil is basicly stored energy from the sun that we can use for all kinds of things to make our lives easier. We will always need oil for some things. Cars however, should not be one of them anymore.

There are more cars out there than trucks and all other oil-burning things combined. If we could move cars away from oil and towards electric, the entire world would be in a much better place.

And who's to say they wouldnt be as much fun for gearheads? We would replace the electric motors with faster ones, swap out electronics for cooler running versions, tweak the computers, etc etc. The "Muscle" in muscle cars doesn't have to burn oil....
