I had 3M done on the rockers, quarters and half way up the hood. My priority was to get the metal parts down. The plastic front fascia woulda cost me as much as the stuff I got done, so I said screw it. Plus I can always have the plastic repainted in the future when I have some change for it and then do the 3M on the fascia too.
I do think that a good way to avoid chips on the driver side gills is to stay off the line on the interstate. The best way I believe is to grab those splash guards, because they will keep the tires from kickin back all them tiny chips

I have 6500 miles on my RJT SS, and too many paint chips. Too many. There is no doubt this IS a legitimate problem, but there is nothing I can do right now about other than not drive closely behind others, and touch up the paint chips as necessary.

GM will never fess up to this as it would cost them millions. They will probably solve the problem on new Camaros, but they will never correct currently built Camaros due to cost. Just my 2 cents worth. |

My VIN is in the 84K range and I do get chips despite driving like I'm on eggshells.
I actually just added the moulded splash guards from GM and am hoping it will curtail some of this nonsense. My wife has a '08 Impala with 30K miles and the only scratches/chips are from parking lot dings and mishaps. This paint that GM provided to us sucks rotten monkey tails(trying to keep it G rated). So here's the stupid question of the day... How much would it cost(approximately) to have the whole car repainted PROPERLY by a body shop/professional?

I have a 3 month old car with 4K miles. I drive all over Houston freeways at 80 mph (lots of big trucks) and do not have one rock chip.
Other than I never tailgate, I have no idea why. |

Maybe the premium paints (IOM, RJT) don't chip as easy.

Threads like this make me glad I spent the $750 on the Clear Bra. It won't stop them all, but it will stop a good amount of them.

I hope that's it! I have 2,300 miles on the car in a little over two months with no chips.

plus... I paid a lot of money for my car. therefore I would expect to have the highest quality of paint as possible. the fact that these cars chip so easily tells me GM is cheaping out somewhere down the line. kinda funny that this is my only new car I have ever owned that has chipped so easily. so this obviously means this isn't normal.

My suspicion is that there are two things at work causing more chips on this car than others. First, the paint or the clear may be thin...seems that way to me. But second, the lines of this car seem to direct objects into the surface more directly. I mean I find bug guts when the roof meets the windshield. Never seen that before. And the front end has a lot of area where it is perpendicular to the road. My guess is that these two things together leads to more chips than normal.
But to those asking what GM is going to do about it...my money is on "nothing", because it's "normal." |

Again, I agree with you that the paint should be better. But I do think maybe your expectations are a little high too. |

clear bra is not ugly. It's only ugly if you don't cover the entire panel. If you cover the entire panel, it's invisible.
