Hello everyone,

I hope I can add a little clartiy to the subject.
I stand by what was quoted.....but you may be fortunate enough to find someone who will install the cam and give you a warranty....... or they might honor the GM warranty themselves. GMPP cannot control what they might offer you. That is as long as they don't find out

GMPP is working on several packages for the new Camaro.

Stay tuned

Robin

I hate the words HOT CAM

I know, hate is a strong word, but, I still do...

as a side note, there are probably 15 cams that are better than the GM hot cam, damn i typed it twice and yes better is a subjective term

That's true. BTW, do you drive your car to work, 60 miles round trip each day, like I do? Have navigation, sat. radio, air conditioning, etc., too? No? Didn't think so. KTHNXBYE

Thought we were talking about the track. Mine only ran 9.60's when I drove it to work, power top, tilt, radio etc. no nav (remember, it's a '68), what's yours run by the way?

Yes, a dude, a guy hahaha

Can you answer, once and for all, if GMPP sells a package tune for the Hot Cam? I keep telling people they're insane and that tune won't compensate for accompanying mods anyways, but people keep insisting it's available.

+1. I'm pretty sure the specs on the Hot Cam are the same specs as the LT4 Hot Cam.......

There are 25+ cam grinds that are better than it, but people want to believe it'll maintain the factory warranty. Not that I'd EVER trust a dealer to open up my motor regardless.

Mine's slow, it can only trap about 130 in the 1/4 on drag radials.

no offense, but if this y'all are gonna get out the measuring stick, take it to PMs unless it's gonna be about cam mods

The appeal to the cam whose name shall not be mentioned, (I can be nice sometimes) is the fact that it makes almost no difference to the way your engine idles and sounds. Unless you're a supermechanic Camaro enthusiast, you'll have no idea the cam is in the car until you step on the gas. That's why I want one. 50 extra horses with such a simple mod doesn't hurt either. Not only that, since the lift is not higher, the springs will last longer. You can keep the originals in without hurting them. It's the duration of the lift that gives the engine the extra power.

Better in what way? I would be willing to bet that the GMPP cam is by far the best if you want to maintain stock drivability and sacrifice almost nothing.

Oh Christ.

A. What makes you think a 112 LSA cam is going to idle like stock? Because some brochure says so?

B. Cam installs are not a "simple mod."

C. There are much better cams out there that will idle smoother and make MORE power.

D. The only reason most people are considering the Hot Cam is the hope of maintaining their warranty. That varies dealer to dealer, especially seeing as I'm almost positive GMPP doesn't sell a tune for the cam. That having been said, you'd have to go get a tune which would then void your warranty anyways, and you'd still have been bent over backwards and raped in the ass by stealership labor charges.

How about asking people who have actually used a Hot Cam before.

The GM Hotcam is a very old cam grind. You said they're supposed to release it in April, but the grind has been around and marketed as the GM Hotcam since the LT1 days (mid 90s).

The LT1 specs were the same as the LS1 specs which apparently are the same as the LS3 specs. I personally don't understand how the same specifications for a cam are used in 3 different engines? 218/227 .525/.525 112LSA

I ran the GM Hotcam in my LS1 and it sounded great. By that I mean it thumped and snarled, exactly what YOU'RE NOT LOOKING FOR. The 112 LSA along with the wide overlap and low lift made for a cam that, (i) idled rough, (ii) provided decent mid-range punch but not the best dyno numbers, (iii) was like hell trying to pass a state inspection, and (iv) rather gentle on the valves due to the relatively low lift.

I would highly advise that you not use this cam.

If I can go out on a limb here, the original poster sounds like he has a lot of money but not a lot of first-hand experience with modifying a car. I say this because his description of the selected parts read like the same over-hyped marketing that the manufacturers spew out. I don't mean to offend anyone with this comment and I apologize if I do, but it is my observation.

I would strongly suggest you call or email one of the forum tuners to help you strategize the best approach to take in an effort to meet your final goals. Right now I get the feeling you read through a parts catalog and picked the items that sound the coolest. You apparently have the money to make this happen, but I'm concerned you won't be happy with the end product.

Good luck with your decisions! There are many people on here that can help answer your questions.
