Apparently I should be driving a minivan
Funny story, one that starts with me supposedly speeding but I deny all claims. For those of you in the NoVa area I'm sure you will recognize route 123, Dolly Madison, and its speed limit of 35. Well Saturday night I'm driving home from getting ice cream (and no that isn't a code word or the name of a bar, I was getting ice cream with some friends). I'm in the right lane and a car goes flying past me, so naturally I think "rabbit car" and speed up a little bit. At the next light I see a pair of headlights coming up up behind me, and there you go he flips his lights on. I pull off to the side of the road, turn my dome light on and wait. The whole cabin is glowing blue thanks to the dome and the footwells, cop comes up and says "not too bad, you do that yourself," I respond with "yes sir, I'm a big fan of DIY mods." The officer informs me that he clocked me going 54 (19 over), and that he was going to pull over the other car but they only got clocked at 51. So my lucky day. After he asks for my liscense and registration I explain to him that this is my camaro, I make the monthly payments, I pay the insurance, and my mother already hates this car to no end, and with all BS aside, I cannot afford my insurance premiums to go up. The officer tells me that he can't really give me a warning for going 19 over, but if I had a good driving record he would figure something out, and gives me a quick word of advice "the only thing your mother would have hated more than this car would have been a harley." Comes back 5 minutes later with a grin, "son you have a +5 record, that's the best you can have and you have no tickets not even a parking fine so this is what I'll do. I have to give you a ticket, but I'll cut you a break." The nice officer ends up giving me a "disregarding a highway sign" citation. Which comes out to be a $90 fine, no points, nothing to insurance. Pretty much the equivalent of a big parking ticket. Then right before he sends me on his way he gives me two more bits of advice. "1) if you're in the right lane and passing the people in the left lane, you're probably going to fast and 2) if you don't want to get pulled over for speeding I suggest you switch to driving a minivan, no cop wants to pull over a minivan."

Pretty sad isn't it. Speeding is speeding. Whether it's a Minivan or a Camaro...It's breaking the law.

19 over.......
dude it was your lucky day. No need to be doing 50+ in a residential zone. 35MPH is normally a neighborhood with kids playing....not to smart in my eyes as I have a 2.5 yr old that likes to play and we don't have sidewalks in my neighborhood.............

![]() Same route to work every morning ....just slower in the van. Been past troopers at 10-15+ in the camaro a bunch of times.... 5-10+ in the van ...bam! pulled over.

19 over in a 35 mph. I would say that is as good an ending as you could have gotten. Unless of course you were in a minivan.
I know a guy in a roofing estimate truck. got pulled over . Cop says you know why i pulled u over. He says...cause u need an estimate? Cop laughed so hard he let the guy go. some cops are good eggs. |

I don't know.....I think it's worth the risk. I mean, how many hot chicks would gawk at a minivan? Or say "Hey, you have a sexy minivan"? My guess is none. And besides, down here, you are required to remove your brain before purchasing a minivan, I don't think you want to do that. Keep the Camaro....and keep it within the speed limit. That's what I try to do.

well this is typical. thats why i dont give people breaks on speeding tickets because the minute you give them a break they find some reason to bitch about it and turn it around on the officer yelling discrimination or some other crazy thing. to the op YOU GOT A BREAK!!!!!!! live with it and shut up!!!!!!! I tell you one thing 19 over for me is a ticket no matter what.

Yes he was an amazing cop. Also this is the intersection where I got pulled over, where the speed limit is 35. It isn't a residental area, I have two little sisters. I go 25 around my neighboorhood.
