Carefull with the deposits people.

It was on the local new here. Dealers have been taking deposits for '09 and '10 vehicles. Then the dealership closes it doors. 13 dealers have gone under here in the last 3 months. Over 100 complaints have been taken by the attorney general's office. The local new is reporting that if the big 3 DO NOT get the loans it will be more close to 100. Some say it is too late, the dealers will continue to close due to record low sales. Even places that have been open for over 50 years!!!! That is just in this area.

Buyer beware with the deposits. A credit card deposit might save you in the long run. At least you dispute the charge. Cash will be gone!!!!!

If I had placed my order already and left a cash/check deposit with the dealer, I'd go back and have them switch it to a credit card deposit. If they wouldn't do that, then I'd want the full name, home address, and all personal phone numbers for the owner, general manager, sales manager, and sales person. You know...just in case the doors get closed and no one is around to refund your money.

I have a lot of faith that GM will survive through this ordeal and emerge on the other side as a much leaner organization. Unfortunately, I think that will include reducing the number of dealers in it's network through consolidation of brands and minimizing overlapping sales territories. There is going to be a lot of pain involved and transferring of assets in the process. I'm holding off on placing my order until next summer just because I don't want to get caught in the crossfire.

This is one of the main reasons I havent ordered yet. im trying to find a dealership that either doesnt need a deposit or will accept a credit card for a small deposit (500 or less). While I dont think GM will shut down, at this point im not 100% sure anymore.

If you don't know your dealership that well, just wait to buy one when there is lot stock, then you don't have to worry about your deposit.

I agree. I may hold off until they hit the street. Whats the worst that could happen? I'll have to wait until summer. Or I might wait until fall and get an Aqua Blue SS.

You can get a blue SS in the summer too, they'll be available at launch. White is the only color being delayed.

Do you guys think it would be safer to use a credit card, or the credit function on my debit card?

Credit card would you be your best and safest bet but I think you can only do chargeback’s within a certain period of time. I think it's 90 days max but I'm not sure.

Does any one know if you are going to get your deposit back from a creditor anyways? The reason I ask, is that my dealer is asking for another 1500 on top of the 500 I gave back in July, and with all that has happened I am very wary to do so.

I would get your 500.00 back and go to another dealer. That dealership is probably hurting and you are paying someone 2 week check.
