Mobil 1 0w-30 or 5w-30?
Originally I was going to run the RP 5w-30 but after doing some research found that it actually isn't GM approved. KEEP IN MIND PLEASE if you're going to start a RP battle take it to one of the other threads because it wasn't my question. I like RP just not risking giving GM an excuse to VOID an issue I may have down the road. However back on topic, I went today to Kragen Autoparts and was looking through their oils there and found the 5w-30 and was going to grab a case however noticed a 0w-30 right next to it and so looked on GM's approved oil site and saw they permit using it. Just wondering if I'm better to run the 0w-30 or just stick with the factory 5w-30? Any recommendations would be good from any oil guru's out there. To give you an idea of the cars use and weather here in Bakersfield I use it as my daily driver and the weather here doesn't get below 40 in the winter and can be upwards of 105+ degrees in summer. Let me know what you think, thanks.
Taylor

5w-30
The only difference between the oils is the cold crank viscosity (the 0w and 5w). The 0w has better cold crank viscosity in cold weather (please note I'm referring to sub zero temps here) but it starts to break down as the weather gets warmer and its crank viscosity breaks down. Since you said that in the summer it can get 105+ you are close to the cold crank limit of the 0w and would be better off with the 5w. Your winters don't get cold enough so you could use either one in the winter. |

Perfect, thanks for the info Mr Draco, just making sure I am giving this car everything it needs to be on the top of its game. Should I hold off on using any additives? I have some at the house but not sure if I should add them or not.

Damn that's what I thought. I heard someone say 6 quarts a while back and in my head thought man that's a shallow pan then but 8 quarts makes a lot more sense. Fantastic, guess I get to pick up another 2 quarts tomorrow!!
