Got under 12000 miles on Cam. Shifter won't get in gear unless engine reved high. First time at dealershipt guy I spoke to said it was transmission. But the transmission guy was not there to look at it. Second time around he said that the transmission guy says it is the clutch...that I have been riding the clutch...granted I put the car in neutral at every red light....and replacing the clutch with parts and labor is 2300. Any advice?

Clutch engages sporadicly usualy at the top when I am on a hill and lower when I am on level ground. I get the burning smell every so often too. I occasionally have issues downshifting into 3rd. I haven had the sticking problem. I did bring it to the dealer and I was told that the clutch was working in normal range which is BS.... Now after reading this I will bring it back and have them check the master cylinder for any issues. |

Count me in too...A9178967
Pressure plate went at 13000K.... Been a week the dealer cannot locate the part . GM won't help. I have offered to pay for a Centerforce clutch GM said that it will void the warranty. I am in my second week with no resolution in sight. |

If you are in the states you might get help from calling customer service.
Customer Service for GM Canada is useless. My advice take it to a different dealership. My clutch failed at 7000mi and I never abused it. I am thinking maybe we should do a class action lawsuit to make GM allow us to install aftermarket clutches. Cause for some reason their warranty sucks. Quote:

Sounds like the same issue as I had just before it dies on mine. I willing to bet its a problem with your pressure plate.

Dealership says it is "driver error" and cannot replicate. Opened a case with GM customer service. Don't think anything will happen. Driving stick shifts for 15 years, never had this issue with any of my previous cars (VW, Nissan & Mazda). |

I just had the clutch stick for the first time last night. Was getting on it a little and it stuck partially engaged and smelled pretty heavily. Then today it feels really strange, grabbing rough at times and has some smell on and off. Gonna see if I can source a reservoir and bleed the clutch this weekend. |

Just got a new master/clutch reservoir yesturday form GM it was leaking they first tried a new cap and that did not work so they replaced the whole thing. Lets see? It does make the clutch feel better and the fluid is clear. I had a friend tell me before that the fluid looked dirty and dark which the dealer said it looked fine so I took a picture of it yesturday while it was fresh. I really think this whole problem we all are having is a hydrolic issue something is just not working right.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it - I just grinded 2nd gear for the first time, and it's been notchy the entire time I've had the car. I have about 600 miles on it now. No clutch issues though, besides the clutch smell when I slipped it a few times when it was new.

VIN# = 20801 with 10,000 miles
Experience with Manual Xmission = Skillful. Driving manual xmission cars for 27 years. Put 210,000 miles on 1991 Mustang 5.0 on original OEM clutch without 1 issue...Nuff said. (Should have never sold that car).
Anyone heard of the clutch chatter TSB and have any info on it?

Just a thought guys.....after ready all these posts with people having clutch issues...Are we all doing what we are supposed to be doing with our left foot when we are done shifting?
This may not be what is causing the problem but it sure can contribute and with a hydraulic system it is even more critical. It does not have the free play of the direct link rod systems. Take your foot OFF the pedal or make sure you do not let your foot, while RESTING on the pedal, put any pressure at all on it. If you do,and I know a ton of drivers who do this,it provides slight contact of the throwout bearing against the diaphram fingers and produces major heat. If this is done on a regular basis the disc becomes glazed and the flywheel gets blue spots......Then the diaphram fingers start to lose temper...then engagement becomes eratic, changes when driven cold and when driven hot......Then it side loads the output shaft sleeve and begins to wear grooves in it where the throwout bearing slides back and forth 1000's of times when shifting. Then.....well you see what I mean ![]() Just trying to help here.Iv'e done several TKO swaps in early Camaros and have taught my kids how to drive a stick....I understand how they work and I would say the best advice is to engage quickly and keep your foot off the pedal. I would bet that some, but not all clutch issues people are having with the new Camaro with thier springy and sensitive clutches are self induced. The torque these engines have accelarate the problem much more than, say, a Honda that could survive it's entire life with a "foot rest" driver ![]() As you know when the foot is on it.... the clutch is slipping. |
