I can't even believe this is a serious question. I mean seriously??

If you actually had to ask this question, in all seriousness, then sell your SHelby gt500 and get a regular mustang gt. Seems the thing to do if you are an intelligent person.

/sarcasm off

i wouldnt take anything that motor trend, Road&track or Car&Driver said too seriously, especially when it comes to performance numbers.

Our shop 2010 Camaro VS. our 2011 5.0 Mustang GT? EDIT NEW 93 OCTANTE Dyno charts!

We just acquired our new 2011 Mustang Gt yesterday and deceied to put it on the rollers right away and compare it against our baseline numbers from our camaro (LS3).

Interesting enough this was on 87 octane (the 2011 GT) as it literally has 37 miles on the car. We are going to race the gas out of it tonight and re dyno on 93 to see if it picks any horsepower up.

As it sits, the Camaro wins on paper We will run the mustang at the track tonight and see if we can match up the 1/4 mile times against our base 1/4 mile times in out R&D Camaro!

EDIT NEW 93 OCTANE vs 93 OCTANE

More photos found here http://www.flickr.com/photos/ipsmotorsports/

Who wants to guess who wins, and what the mustang runs tonight

Regards

IMO Mustang looks pretty good in this comparison. Running 87 octane on a green motor not even broken in and it's within 6hp peak.....all while lugging around less weight.

The dealer filled it with 87...Rookie mistake however we will see what it does with 93 tonight/tomorrow and update again!

However I drove both stock cars back to back, and its too hard to tell which one feels better per say. I will say the Mustang under braking is miserable and has awful modulation, that was my most lasting first impression. Oh and the Camaro is better looking IMO to

Nice! 6rwhp to the Camaro, goes along with the base ratings. The Camaro's huge torque advantage should help it though. Although I know those numbers can/will probably change with the 93 in it.

Questions about the Mustang. Is it a manual car? What gear ratio did you get? Also, what gear did you dyno in?

I think the Camaro will have the quicker pass until the Mustang breaks in a bit. The Camaro by 2 tenths, comparing it's first run vs the Mustang's tonight.

Yes the IRS will eat up more power than the SRA.

And those are not bad numbers for 87 octane and 37 miles. Also not bad for the Camaro either.

The weight difference between the two looks like it will make the torque nearly equal on both cars when compared to weight. Not sure on the Mustang gearing. The mustang will have a pretty decent advantage in power-to-weight though.

True, but the Camaro carries it's power/torque advantage throughout it's curve, save from about 6k on. Like you said, with the Mustang being lighter, it appears on paper it levels the playing field.

Can't wait to see the runs begin, lol!!

The Mustang has the advantage on paper.

Nearly identical torque and more power, of course when compared to weight.

awesome. this is what i think everyone is looking for....true apples to apples comparisons.

also, i think the GT is meant to be run on 87 octane (like the "old" 3valves) which is why the dealer would add it to the car. but like you said, it should pick up a few hp with the 93.

im looking forward to seeing what you guys come out with!
