@IPSjeff, what was the dyno difference for the 5.0 from 87 to 93 octane? I realize there was some break-in that occurred during this time frame but curious if there was a significant change in power?
Very nice power overall and peak TQ came at a lower RPM than I expected. |

This is some very good data (1/4 mile times...eh...different story, but thanks for posting anyway).
Interesting that the power has a "dip" between 4600 & 5200 rpm. Wonder if that is the variable cam timing making some changes in that rpm range. Bet a tune could do some good there. Thanks - again, very good info. Bob |

WOW! The difference between 4000 and 6500 rpm is quite substantial - looks to be over 20 RWHP in some places. Have to ask - was the car at about the same operating temperature for both displayed passes? Reason I'm asking is an attempt to eliminate as many possible variables/reasons for there to be a difference.
As for peak....I wouldn't be surprised if the computer is pulling timing out above a certain rpm no matter what fuel is in the car. Thanks! Bob |

(taking an average)Also as for the dyno comparisons, ambient temperatures and humidity were with in 4% of one another, so not much change there, and then the car was at 100% operating temperature each test. Regards |

Thank you - that helps. And yes, I have been keeping tabs on what kind of power gains are coming from tuning (on Mustang Forums...fancy that....lol).
I know I'm a broken record...but thanks again. ![]() Bob |

I have for development both a Camaro and Mustang. I would not swap out the IRS for a three arm live axle. You lose so much in ride quality and handling on anything but glass smooth roads. The Camaro IRS can be set up to perform well at the drag strip. It is also fair to say that the Mustang out of the box is better on the drag strip. We are working with a very well respected Mustang tuner and his drag car. It i torquing over so hard as it lifts the front wheels that we can't get a full throttle run.
A solid rear axle may be easier to dial in for the strip, but they still need to be dialed in. |

My post was a bit 'tongue in cheek', but ok, and to each their own, of course. I've done just a weeeeeeeeee bit of drag racing, so I do ask that you keep my obvious bias in mind when reading my posts.
FYI....for 99+ Cobras, live axle swaps are VERY common (and very easy). I did it with both my 99 and later my 04. Both daily drivers (26 miles to work each way, every day, mix city/highway). I'm sure the ride wasn't as good as with the IRS, but it wasn't so horrible that it made any significant difference to me, and the benefits (again, for me) far outweighed the downsides. For the road racing crowd, it is obviously a different story. As you said of course the live axle must be dialed in. But once you do, it is cheaper, lighter, more efficient, and stronger than the IRS. All that stuff is great for us drag racers, but I totally get it that I'm in the minority, and again, to each their own. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Bob |
