Bottom line he is a Ford guy. Nothing wrong with that. I'd hate to see how much he's eaten though trading cars in so early. Not a pretty site for sure. In the end though, if he has what he wants, that's all that matters. I can tell you if there were no Camaro available at this time, a Mustang or Challenger I would be driving. Then shortly after this, a new Camaro came out, I would trade either the Mustang or Challenger in in a heartbeat. I don't care how much money I would lose. The Camaro is the top dog in my book.

If I had a new GT500, I would not get another mustang. If I could afford multiple cars I would like a variety from different makes.

It is interesting that you bring the dollars item up. When I made the recent decisions on the cars, I had one stipulation with all the deals. Pay my trade off, sell me the car I am wanting for this price and we have a deal. If you can't do that, I will take my business somewhere else. Sure there was some haggling on their side but maybe I am just a stubborn person and will spend my money as I see fit. Roughly 30 min. of that dialogue and I either get the deal I want or I walk. It is not like I have to have it.

I certainly would not say I am a Ford person through and through. If you look in one of the pics I posted, there is a '67 Plymouth Valiant sitting in my garage. I have owned all 3 American brand performance cars. I will say I liked the Dodge the least of them. I would take a Camaro or Mustang over any Challenger but again I am looking for performance, not just looks.

The GT500 is the wife's car. We have been married for 15 years and have never taken a vacation strictly for ourselves. I mean a serious vacation like Europe, Mexico, South America, Asia Pacific region, etc... We made the decision together to get the GT500. It is like a reward for where we are in life and are blessed enough to be able to afford it. I promised I would only take it to the strip on occasion.

The Mustang will be my daily driver/strip car. I fully expect to get off of work, drive to the track, make several passes, and drive home all without worrying I will break something. In short, I can simply get the Mustang in that form for less money. That absolutely takes nothing away from the Camaro. It will do the same, just have to spend more doing it.

You bet I will still be participating in the Camaro events. I have never recounted a time where I have met so many great folks. Who cares what we drive. I would think friendships and appreciation for cars would outweigh anything else. You may even see me at the next Camaro5 fest.

Is the Camaro an amazing car? Absolutely.
Will I miss owning one? You bet.

The Mustang will simply meet my goals for less money. That is all it comes down to. Hope that helps explain the "why".
Haters.....do what makes you happy.

Some people have the means to do what you just did.
Guess what?
They do it without any hesitation.

We have a guy on our GTI forum that just traded his GTI for 2011 Stang.
Some guys are giving him grief....but some can appreciate to fact that he is upgrading to a RWD vehicle. Some are lil delusional thinking he "down graded" but the true car enthusiast came out and supported him.A few have even gone out and test drove or are checking out Ford dealers.

VW GTI is a nice sporty/hatchback/it's fast...but it ain't no muscle car....

Congrats on the Mustang

WOW...Ford has definetly up'd the ante with some high quality and nice looking cars but, Mustangs are a dime a dozen. I see 10 to 20 a day but, when I go to cruise-ins and car shows most people flock to the new Camaro's. I bought the LS V6 so I could afford to upgrade. Companys are lining up to improve the looks and performance of the Camaro. Soon Mustangs won't be the only one to have cheaper or easier upgrades....and I predict Camaro sales will remain high. Camaro's are gorgeous....Mustangs are....just O.K.....don't really see a dollar difference....it has to be taste or preference...I choose CAMARO ...you should too but, to each his own.
Peace!

It's sad to see you sell the Camaro, but whatever makes you happy is what counts. I guess I'm just a little confused on your reasoning. I'm not trying to argue but I don't see where the SS costs more to take to the track. I have been to the track numerous times with out and issue and have always driven there and back, 250 mi. round trip without an issue. I'm sure a GT can do the same so where is the difference. Once again it's you decision and I'm not trying to make an argument, just trying to see where you're coming from.

To get the Camaro to where I want it I will need to do the following:

Drivetrain:

1. Install 4.10 gear: ~$1,200
2. Upgrade the axles to handle 500WHP: ~$1,500
3. Upgrade all the bushing in the rear with control arms: ~$400
4. Clutch: ~$450
5. V-6 brakes: ~$500 (possible trade with a LT car)

Upgrades for the drivetrain total: $4,050 ($3,550 without brake cost)

Motor:

1. Cam kit: ~$750
2. CNC head porting: ~$750
3. Full exhaust: ~$1,650
4. TB porting: ~$150
5. Tune: ~$450 for SCT and Jannetty Racing tune

Upgrades for the motor: $2,750 (not including the mods I already had)

Total to have a car that can run consistent 11's and not brake as good as a base Mustang GT: $6,800 ($6,300 without brake cost)

Compare that to a Mustang cost to get 11's:

Drivetrain:

1. Upper and lower control arms with adjustable lower mounts: ~$400
2. Rear end girdle with axel tube brace kit: ~$200
3. Clutch: ~$450

Upgrades for the drivetrain total: $1,050

Motor:

1. CAI: ~$300
2. Full exhaust: ~$1,600
3. Tune: ~$450

Upgrades for the motor: $2,350

Total for 11 sec. Mustang: $3,400

For roughly $3K less I can meet my goals. Bear in mind I do all my own wrenching minus rear gears.

Take into account I will have a lower car payment and my insurance will be less on the Mustang. This is my motivator.
