If it is new, it could be residual grease and residue burning off.

Also new cars that haven't been broke in yet are known to give off some blue smoke due to the rings and seals not being completely set yet.

replying to thread...I have under 2,500 miles, smoke was "light" and coming mainly from the left tailpipe but some came from right too... had oil change last week, I run mid grade fuel that does contain ethanol. smoke was pretty light although I saw it as I approached the car from the back on remote start up... it went away after about 6 minutes.

yes oil change last week.. smoke straight out of the left pipe... some out of the right but not as thick as the left side... stopped after 6 mins.

I've had 2 issues with this brand new camaro...first week the fuel filler tube was bad and had that replaced.. then last week a rear axel seal went bad throwing lube all inside of the rear right rim. Now I see light smoke at warm start ups.

no weird noises, no lights, engine temp normal, driving prior to shut off was in normal city traffic.. stop and go etc.

Should there be rather thick BLACK build-up of residue inside tailpipe? I have.

if its as excessive as you say, i would have to guess you could be running rich. this would be blackish smoke. it could be a result of not using the recommended octane rating. when a vehicle is tuned to use lower octane fuel a higher octane will create carbon deposits and over time will cause engine ware, overheating, and worse fuel economy. higher octane burns slower. its not being allowed enough time by your engine to burn off and the remains are comming out your tailpipe and also being deposeted inside you tailpipes. i recommend you switch back to the recommended 87 for the v6.

After exhaust gas is treated by the catylitic converter, the only thing that comes out is supposed to be CO2 and H2O. Is it possible that it is merely water vapor from the hot exhaust?
The mufflers have drain holes in the bottom to allow accumulated water to escape,so the amount of condensation must be significant.

that makes sense...and I had a tech tell me to use the mid-grade octane..now I got a full tank of 89... is there an additive that reduces it down to 87?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Being in Florida, it's very humid out there and moisture builds up very quickly on metal that's in the cooling process in the exhaust. Notice my car would thickly steam after a long hot drive from AZ to my pop's place in Long Beach when I then restart it in the morning. Don't see condensation at all in Souther AZ where it's so dry that you don't really sweat anymore. Any condensation that builds up down here is generally gone in 15 minutes or less.

check the down tube in your airbox just outside of the throttle body, you might have some oil lying in it, I read a poster who found blow by oil in his when he changed the stock to a injen cai........

No I have never heard of an octane reducer. Unless your engine us knocking there is absolutely no gains from using higher octane fuel. Unless you like paying more for fuel and causing your engine stress.

thanks for the info... now should I be concerned about the black soot build-up? Its pretty thick inside the pipes, I wiped it clean the other day and its already black again.. I assume this is from the high octane fuel? I can't wait to fill her up with 87 octane.. im on half tank now...
