i do a lot of fwy driving... the brakes squeak a lot! when i hit the petal they start to squeal and i have to let off and then get back on the petal and they stop... every time i have to stop! its getting old fast.... and it is the only problem i have with the car... i do have the old set up though with the weights on the calipers and no roller skates on the pads not sure if anyone has found any correlation yet

About 2,500 miles and I've never had it on the Camaro.

My freakin Yukon does though and it drives me nuts. Spent about $100 on a new set of pads and threw the perfectly good stock pads in the trash only to have it continue to squeak. I did rough up my rotors with some scotch brite but didn't make a difference. I didn't have the rotors turned but probably should have.

Have only had to brake hard 2 times since having the car and neither time did it make a sound however driving it every day it happens pretty much every time I apply the brakes. May be something associated with these type of brakes but have never had them before so my knowledge in that respect is lacking. Hope this helps a bit to describe at least one situation.

Mine do the same. OP, if you drive fast and are heavy on the brakes you will glaze your rotors and brakes thu8s making them squeel or squeek more.

You could have just taken them off and sanded them a little.

Do you drive fast or slow down very fast on off ramps? This is mostly where the brakes get glazed and eventually your rotors warped too.

It doesn't matter what kind of car you have. It matters how you drive it. Ever since the invention of metalic pads, or even before, brakes have squealed. It has to do with a couple of things. first the brakes and rotors get glazed and harded and squeel. Dust might play a factor. I remember we used to sand the brakes down, and\or put this blue/red goop on the back of the pads. Now I think they use never sieze.

for the fact that it takes me an hour and a half to two hours to go 35 miles i am not going very fast to slow down... and i could understand that the pads are being glazed except for the fact that the times i heat the brakes up (after braking to a stop from high speed) they are quieter... but when i get into traffic and casually stopping the brakes squeak every stop...

Mine come and go as well. It's rather irritating, but I'm having my new rotors and Hawks ceramic pads installed next week, so I'm hoping that will remedy the problem.

These are high performance Brembo brakes, they do not want to be used like the brakes in Granny Clampett's truck.
I have to disagreed with you. Yes the squeel is being noticed with light pressure, but aggressive braking all the time will do more harm than good and eventually the squeel might get worse.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is my suggestion. Drive normal, obey the speed limits, don't tailgate, stay 50-500 feet away from the car in front of you so you don't have to step on the brakes so much and so hard, plan ahead, when your exit is coming up take your foot off the accelerator and let the car slow down a bit without the brakes, don't stop all of a sudden or in the last 10 feet all at once.

Do these things and your brakes will squeel less and last longer. You will get less rock chips and tickets. Your fuel economy will increase and you will get in less acccidents.

I plan on doing the same ... I hate the dust on the SS, the LT is so much easier to keep clean ...

bumblebee:

I'm not a heavy braker, and have a 1.5 hour highway commute (so not speeding and then slamming on the brakes). I have been told by two seperate techs at two seperate dealers that if I want to fix the squeaking I should be going about 40 and slam on them. Now, I refuse to do this. Period. What I don't understand is that they've (the dealerships) have replaced my pads twice now, so I've had 3 sets of pads since she was at 5,400 and now I have 9,200 miles on her. All 3 of those sets squeal. I don't understand how I can be glazing every set of pads in (averaging here) about 1,267 miles.

Again, thank you all for voting and posting feedback. I greatly appreciate it.

Glad to hear that they stopped squealing for you.

Please keep voting, the more numbers to crunch the better. Thanks.
