One solution to this is one that I use. Simply cut a 2"x4" to length and place it from the top of the door to the ceiling. It will stay there by its self because the tension bar keeps it in place. This prevents the door from opening while the 2x4 is in place.

Last October, my garage was broken into, they stole one of my dirtbikes ('06 KTM200 XC-W), my Gary Fisher mountain bike, and a few other things. They didn't bother with the Kawasaki KLX250S, probably because the steering wheel was locked and it takes a key to start it. I don't know how they got through the hole they made in the garage door, there was a steel cable going across it. But the cop said she's seen them get through smaller openings.

.
The orange bike is the KTM that was stolen.

We have alarm sensors on the garage doors, glass break monitors, motion sensors plus a whole lot of other goodies designed to slow them down if they try that at my place. My buddy is a VP of an alarm company and he hooked me up with a ton of stuff. We wired the whole house up together during the construction. Best house warming gift we got.

At the risk of jinxing myself here, I'm glad I live in a small town in Iowa And in case that fails, I've got the Mauser ready to rock at the first sign of danger to property/life.

We have a bar that goes across to lock it and the dog sleeps in the garage.

And he likes to bite shins and butt cheeks when he's playing so imagine when you disturb him from his sleep?

I really don't get thieves today (well, I never really did get them, aside from their something for nothing philosophy), especially those that ply their trade in states where one's right to bear arms and defend themselves and their property hasn't been completely trampled into the ground like those in other states have, but still....

I mean, it's just a car...it's not worth dying over.

Yeah, no kidding. In fact, I think I might quit my job at the US Postal Service and take up thievery for a living.
