At the camaro5fest it was the manual Camaros that were blowing parts off the line. The old days of 3 spd std , 4 spd std or 2 speed powerglide are over...... I love my A6 SS.

I loved my L99 stock and I love it even more now with it having the JRE Street Package and Tuned by Ted Jannetty himself.

I love my L99....would not trade it for the world. I had nothing but manual cars for years. I have driven lots of autos too! For me the L99 is FUN!!
Also, for good measure.....IOM...IOM....IOM!!!!!!!!

I've driven both. I Love my manual no doubt about it. But I drove Randy's "slow"
Camaro and even after driving my supercharged car every day, I'm still impressed with the power of a stock Camaro... Without a doubt.I think some people assume that if you drive a stick you are more of a "purist" or a better technical driver. But in the end that is, like the op said, in your head...Both are performance cars, both are fast, sexy and a ton of fun to drive... IMO one is not greater than the other...

but it was an LS3 and I think he toasted the clutch if I remember... Not really a broken part...

I've got over 17,000 miles on my L99. I drove manual transmission Camaros from 1983 until last year when I bought the L99, so I think I understand what people mean by the L99 feeling "sleepy" or having less get up and go.
I think it has less to do with the actual power avaialble in the car and more about the transmissions themselves. With a stick, you physically put it in gear and then mash the pedal. The car's reaction is more instantaneous...you think, "I want to go fast...(hit the clutch, shift down, let out the clutch...)...NOW!"...and mash on the gas pedal and it just GOES! With the L99, we have almost the same amount of power, but the sequence of things is a bit different...you think, " I want to go fast...NOW!"...and at the same time, mash on the gas pedal. Then the engine and transmission get the message and the car down shifts, there's a slight delay while the car hunkers down, and then it just GOES! So not as instantaneous...but still very quick. My but dyno can easily tell the diffreence between being in a manual car vs. an automatic, but both feel great in my book. When I use the tap-shift mode, it very closely approximates the sensation of a manual tranny car--it's not exactly the same, but closer than most LS3 owners (many of whom have not driven the L99) will admit. Just no clutch...otherwise, the acceleration-on-demand feeling is very, very comparable to other manual Camaros I've driven. I chose the L99 because it is my daily driver, I spend a LOT of time in traffic, and I have "been there, done that" with manual transmissions, so I don't feel the need to drive a stick-shift anymore--have had enough of that! So for all you L99 owners...I hope you're enjoying your cars and not worrying too much about what other people think. It's got a ton of power, goes really fast, handles great, and will give other stock cars in it's class a serious run for their money at the track. Once you start talking about modded cars, all bets are off anyway. I mean...with enough cash, you can make an 18-wheeler pull fast times in the 1/4 mile, right?

Even though I have only owned stick shifts all my life and currently drive a LS3, there is nothing wrong with the L99.
The L99 is quicker, but the LS3 is faster in the end, on the other hand the L99 gives you a little better gas mileage. It is a personal choice... I don't think one is better than the other. Oh and the LS3 has one of the cheapest clutches known to mankind... |

I like my L99 and it will be converted into an LS3 spec's. As far as an auto compared to a manual: if i do this again i'll be getting a manual for sure

I haven't really seen what you are saying about the L99 being slow. I have seen some complaints about it being sluggish off the line. The LS3 is also under low throttle, it's all due to the torque management and is easily tuned out. The TM in the L99 is more obstructive; however, at 3000 RPM it is basically gone so under performance driving it is not really involved except maybe the moment of launching.

I love my L99 and A6 transmission. I have never once missed a shift, had trouble getting it into gear, or heard a grinding noise when shifting. I couldn't say the same for any of my previous manual transmission cars.
