The edges are always on and the center only lights up when braking (kinda like normal, they get brighter when braking).

Update, since I had several AAC light products installed last week, the #1 product with the most comments is the AFTERBURNER LIGHTS

The AAC half moon taillights are awesome, but they are NOT concept afterburner lights. VERY different things, very different looks.

I got the AAC CCFL afterburners, yet to install them yet but this pic reassures me that I made a good choice for what is currently available now when it comes to afterburner choices....
