I've got the Saab 93 to sell and have looked at prices over the last few weeks and they are falling!

I'm not too worried about it but would like to sell for a decent price. I only owe another year (Oct 09) so I'm ahead with money on it and stuff but I'd hate to take a crap deal just to sell!

I'll keep the Saab before I take a hit! I've already sold one car I had for a down payment and got exactly what I advertised it for! So I'll try not to take a hit for the Saab...as I don't have to sell it...just have two payments for about 6 months and then the Saab is paid for!

to Barry, Merlin, and Ellwyn: your cars are practically brand new! why do you feel it's time to get a newer car? (other than the fact that it's a Camaro) my truck's a 99. it's paid off, has 144k miles & still runs great. i'd still be driving my 91 explorer (215k mi at the time) if this truck hadn't have come along at the right time for the right price.

Why wouldn't a dealer want to make retail on a Camaro?

It's a good time to buy, if you can afford to but definitely not to sell...
I have been a diehard Chevy fanatic for 45 years, but the plethora of cheap low mileage cars out there are causing me to stray. I'll probably get run off the forum for this, but I'm considering a used Mustang GT convertible. Not because that's what I'd rather have, but 2006-2007 models with sub 20K miles are selling in the $18K-$20K. Since I want a convertible now, and GM won't sell me one, I've got few options if I want a pony car ragtop. I could live with a Mustang until the Camaro convertible gets here --- if it ever does.

Forget trading in. Put a for sale sign in the window. You'll never get anywhere near what it's worth on a trade in now.

A concern is that many people want to save their cash, as stated above, and it very well could be the case that the only "bites" one gets will be from the dealer.

A local kia place is offering $8,000 minimum trade-in on any vehicle, "even if it is towed in on a wrecker".

They are also offering to give you a second car once you buy the first one and tires for life...

...And I still wont buy one.

All I can think is.....DUH....What do you think they are going to do? Give you top dollar, sit on the car until the market is ready to pay top dollar or even close to it? They are barely in business as it is.

There has to be a market for your vehicle, what were you trading in? A car that is getting good gas mileage or a gas gas hog?

I don't like the deals they give, but you have to put yourself in the place of there business. There are lots of dealerships around me closing and cutting staff.

Don't blame ya. I was looking even at a few cars outside of GM myself. With the deals out there and with the way the economy is there are just some good deals out there.

And it's hurting the performance cars, cause I'm seeing used M3's and SVT Cobra's going for like 20k high teens, it's unreal!

There's a Chevy dealer 3 minutes from me selling an 06 Pontiac GTO 6spd with 8,900 miles for $20,999... If it wasn't winter I'd be all over it...

Why would you want to trade in a new car right now anyway? You just bought it. There isn't a 90-day return policy on cars. When you roll off the lot, you're luck if you keep two-thirds the value of your car. The odds are that you haven't checked the Kelley Blue Book value of your car. If you had a 2008 Mazda 6 sport sedan with 100 miles in excellent condition, you could get a trade-in of $13,250. Since you're trying to trade a brand new 2009 Mazda 6, you can expect for the dealer to laugh at you for selling back a car that you just bought, and you can expect slightly more money. The deal they offered you is probably more than its trade-in value.

Not all car values are down. I have a 2007 Civic Si that cost about 24k new. I was offered 20k for it last month with 18k miles. I know people love to talk bad about foreign cars, but damn do they hold their value.

I happened to have a 1998 Monte Carlo and I live in Dallas so they will give me $3000 just to get it off the streets. At least that is what I have been told. I may make too much money and have to file seperate from my wife next year to take advantage of it. I'm hoping they raise the amount though or I may be getting a 1LT. I will also need to wait until whatever the new rule changes are for next year. Hopefully they will raise the amount of the car you are buying or I need to find a dealer who will give me that much for it. It has 110,000 miles and hasn't given me any problems other than needing a new battery, alternator, gas, tires and oil.

If nothing else it may help someone in one of the counties who need help with getting a down payment.
