Veterans Owners and Winter...
So I'm curious to the Veteran owners out there (those that have had their 2010's since fall of last year)... how do these beasts hold up in the winter time?
In Colorado the winters are hit and miss. It can either be extremely cold and snowy, or just sporadic at best. We've had winters where it snowed a handful of times and that's it. But other years we're ransacked with snow in blizzard fashion. So, how does the vehicle hold up in icy, snowy driving? What tires have you used and recommend? Any tips for someone who's driven small sedans or SUV's during the winter months (not muscle cars)?

Had mine since September - I drove her in the winter too but didn't have snow tires. Def get snow tires b/c sand in the trunk doesn't do SHT!!
It wasn't really that bad - I just REALLY hate driving in snow and I am NOT used to RWD in winter so....it was a learning curve, but Cherry slid all over in the light snow once and it made me never want to do it again...(but it was icy and nasty that time).... I really abhor winter and driving in snow (esp b/c people in New England drive like lunatics in the snow - it's like 40 in dru weather, 95 in snow....friggen nutbags!!). I'm either taking my dad's truck this year or never going into work. LOL. I have heard people say the V6's are better in the snow though....I really have no clue... |

I drove my 2LT all winter. Bought some Heritage 18" steelies and had Blizzaks mounted. It performed great, including going through some fresh 5 or 6 inch snowfalls.
Traction control and Stabilitrack are your friends. Took the car to an empty parking lot and tried to spin it out with both TC and S on and off. With these on (default), it literally helps you straighten the car by braking and reducing engine torque. Pretty sweet. Do a search on this issue for more info, but DO NOT drive in the snow on those Pirelli Summer tires. Tessa's got some brass ones for trying this with all that torque and HP on tap in the SS! Glad there was no harm, sister!

I would get all seasons at the very least in CO. The 'summer only' tires are crap even in the cold and worse in snow/ice. When I lived in CO I did just fine with all seasons on my cars and I suspect, they would be fine on the Camaro too.

Or....a winter car....(or ....just don't go to work I'm already feeling thinking about the coming winter.....

Mine will be spending the winter in the garage under cover. I will pull it out for nice days, but I would hate to see ice and slop hanging all over my car.

You've got a 1LT, so you've got some choices. I put 18" rims and Blizzaks all around in October and had them on until April. Got them at Tires Plus. You have to be careful, keep you foot out of it, but except for one light snow that was slick as owl sh!+, my SS performed fine. I left it home twice and drove my wife's SUV when we got 4"+ snowfalls, but that wasn't a problem as when there is that much snow on the ground, she stays home!

Driving my 4th gen you need to really plan and know your route. It was so bad that when a hill was coming i would wait at the top for the traffic to reach the other side so i could use momentum to get up it. Its amazing how in the summer little hills are absolutely nothing but then pile some snow and ice and its like a mountain.

Drove mine right through the winter. Like others got a set of heritage rims and only did some All seasons. Drove just fine even in a moderate snow.
