whats the rear gearing on the L99 cars? 3.45:1? because on the 2011 GT's the autos have 3.15:1.

Great race...The L99 has a tremendos amount of Torque Management which probably explains the 1-2 pull. I would have to assume Ford did a better job of setting their shift profile up to make the car actually shift firmer. Having said that, stock for stock looks like and honest kill.

The whole gearing issue has been proven pretty much moot considering the fastest 5.0's have both been the tallest geared. An auto (3.15:1) running a 12.57 and a manual (3.31:1) running a 12.58.

What the rear gear is means nothing by itself. You have to look at each transmission gear and multiply that by the rear gear to get the effective actual gearing (and then consider tire diameter if you want to really get down to it).
The 5.0 vs the SS is a great example. With factory, non-optional gearing, the SS has the advantage in rear gears (3.23:1 vs 3.15:1 and 3.45:1 vs 3.31:1). But when transmission gearing is taken into account, the "advantage" completely reverses, and even becomes much more pronounced. |

That's not my point. My point is, the 3.73 equipped cars aren't (apparently) ETing quicker in the 1/4 than the taller geared cars, nor are they ETing quicker at any reference points, such as 1/8, 1000', etc. Any advantage the 3.73's hold is theoretical and unproven. I see a lot of people on this forum assuming that a shorter rear gear means a quicker car, which is not always the case. How power delivery meshes with the gearing is much more important than how short the gearing actually is.

I picked up maybe 2/10s from the gear swap, but actually feels like 1/2 second... We will see when the temps get cooler. My latest run was a 12.3 @ 112 85 degrees 90% humidity.

Ahh ok, so there is more to it than driver experience that makes for the faster times..

That's what I've noticed. I actually trap about the same, only I do it at the top of 4th where before it was the top of 3rd. The car feels allot stronger off the line, but goes through the gears so quick you don't get the long pull anymore. The key is to get the shift points down low just as the HP curve starts to fall. Also shift completion on the backside/decreasing side of the torque curve negates slower ETs.

C`mon son.... Read the whole post. I was wanting to see if anybody noticed that and I mentioned it could have easily been the camera man moving, mustang letting off or the Camaro starting to pull back slightly, also another thing to figure is the mustang could have shifted sooner into a higher gear while the camaro may have been pulling the top of the previous gear as well. Way to many variables to tell from this race other than the mustang is obviously faster. Like I said before and in this post and the one before I believe the 5.0 auto is faster than the L99 period end of story... So whats this eventually the Camaro would win stuff? C`mon son... I`m no fanboy...
