Hey all,

are advertising fee's on an invoice a legitimate charge? should I be willing to pay for this?

Yes and they can not be bypassed. This is one of those things dealers must pay GM and the advertising fees are already figured into the cost of the car by GM so you only pay for it once. If the MSRP is $35k, the advertising fee is already included into the $35k.

If a dealer tries to tack on advertising fees on top of the price of the car, refuse to pay that as you will be paying it twice, like if a dealer says the MSRP is $35k and then adds on a couple hundred for advertising fees refuse to pay the extra.

Sometimes, they are built into the price of a vehicle. It depends on your state. If it is added to your doc fees, then you should challenge it. If it is built into the price, then you're paying for it.

Sounded shady to me, for those who want further explanation. A dealer showed me an invoice with a line that appeared to have been typed on the invoice (not original as I could tell because it was in a different font.) that said "advertising fee $450" I rolled my eyes and walked out.

every dealer I talked to in IL and WI had "advertising fees" added onto invoice. They should never be added onto MSRP however. The dealer will basically pay Invoice+advertising-holdback. Holdback is 3% from what I have heard. So you should always be able to get a dealer to sell you a car near invoice(+advertising) and they'll still make a 3% profit.

I noticed a few odd fees like "handling" and such. I guess that just goes with the business and to be expected. That's what I thought anyway.

WHAT kind of crap is that , is like you go to your local butcher and e says the beef today goes for $12 LB and then there is 34.9 cents per lb for ads on your local paper ,what is this coming from????
