Reminds me of someone I knew with a MB E-Class, it had a safety feature to lower the windows if the car was submerged like if you drove into a canal. During Hurricane Wilma she parked in the middle of a large open parking lot thinking nothing would hit the car. Well the window drove rain to the moisture sensors and the car dropped all the windows to release anyone trapped inside. She was right nothing hit her car but I damn did she get some water damage, her entire car interior was flooded!!

Not that it's the most reliable of sources, but OnStar on Facebook confirmed this morning that the 2011 vehicles have a newer set of hardware that is supposedly required for the mobile app to work.

I call BS - if I can request OnStar to do all that stuff through voice communication over my mobile phone I see no reason that couldn't have an app to do the same thing.

Who cares, you should be able to pick up your phone anywhere with any hand in any manor and it should work.

This is not a freebie phone that I might cut some slack to, this is a phone that costs $200-300 if you sign a contract that is going to cost you another $2500 plus!! It should $^%@# work

So ALL 2011 Camaros have this iPhone Onstar capability? Or are putting them in the ones they build from now on?

Seriously.... thats the first thing I thought when I read the headline. I cant imagine the hardware in our radios have changed from 2010-2011 MY. Hopefully this will be retro-active, at least for the 2010 Camaro. Otherwise this will be an EPIC fail for GM, as they are completely screwing their enthusiasts who are the majority of the early adopters.

There isn't any special capability required for this. All of this capability exists in your car (and in the 2010 models) GM is just choosing to use it as a sales point for future buyers and ignoring those who already bought.

Ya I just wrote them an e-mail telling them basically that. There is NO reason for this not to be available on the 2010. I don't expect all new features to be available for the 2010 obviously (like HUD or even the backup sensors I didn't complain about) but this just blatantly shows that GM is solely concerned with attracting new buyers instead of taking care of existing owners.

Not so easy. Im sure there will be username and password protection. And even if they can some how bypass that.... they still have to put the key in the ignition to move the vehicle, otherwise.... its just like someone smashing your window after you've used the auto-start from your key fob.

The iPhone will not directly control the car, but rather send a signal to OnStar's network, which will then validate it, and send the appropriate signals to your vehicle's OnStar system.

If you are the paranoid type, i'd be more worried about a double-agent at OnStar HQ.

Odds are you have to keep your onstar subscription? Doubt its going to be totally free. I mean how much would people actually need to use it?

Now if onstar would tell my wife that the garage door is down and we wouldn't have to flip around and go back to check, then it would be worth it! (from tire wear alone)
