Is anyone using 18" wheels on their SS for track use?
I use my SS for road courses.
So far I've been to NJ Motorsports Park and Pocono this year. I changed from the Pirelli 245-40-20 tires up front to 275-40-20 Pirelli's with a set of rear take-off wheels from another car. The car definitely turns in better, and the tire wear on the fronts is not as bad. 300 miles at NJ Motorsports Park basically ruined the 245's. My next change is going to be the Hotchkis Race Pack and a set of headers, and then I'm taking the car to Summit Point towards the end of August. When I get back, I'm thinking about getting some 18" wheels from CCW or Forgestar/Forgeline/someone else...., which will save quite a bit of weight. Both should be able to clear the stock rotors. What I'm looking for is to get into the 295, 305, or 315 width tires front and rear for track use. I'm not going drag racing, so we need wide tires up front too. I guess I'm looking for a recommendation on tires and tire sizes someone else is running, and how it's working. Also, if you upgraded to larger calipers/rotors are there fitment issues? Thanks in advance. Last edited by ericedelman; 07-24-2010 at 09:55 PM. |

The smallest I've seen guys run is 19's.
From what I understand 18's will not fit on the car due to the SS's brakes. All the drag guys are putting V6 brakes on in the back and running 17 and 18" wheels. |

Are you going to be using a staggered set-up?

Guys have been using the 18'' Z06 wheels for drag racing. They use the Z06 front wheels which I believe are 18 x 9.0 (I could be wrong with the width). But the do clear the brakes.

Here's a quote from Vadar Use a 18 x 9.5" C6 Zo6 front wheel or clone C6 ZO6 front with Zo6 offset. |

The 18" Z06 wheels will bolt right up with no problems. No spacers needed. They make them with the correct offset. I know for a fact....I use to have them. This must be the 50th thread on this. I think I even put some pics up a while back. The link to the place I bought them last year is in one of the old threads too. I'd post it again but I'm on the phone. I used Corvetteguys.com
And I still run my Brembos with the Bogart 17's. It's the 16's where the brakes become an issue. |

I use 18" for autocross tires.
fronts are 18X11 with 315/30/18, rear are 18X12 with 335/30/18. Hoosire A6 tires. They do stick out about an inch. I had to do a LOT of work to make these work. The knuckle on the front spindle had to be ground down (where the bolt goes for adjusting camber). The front was easy. The rear: I had to raise the car 1/4" (was lowered 1 1/4"). had to modify the lower control arm as it hits the inside lip of the wheel when at the apex of the corner. 18's - especially WIDE 18's are the way to go. Turn in is quick. The lower profile tire makes the rear gearing like 3.88's. I havn't seen any understeer with this setup on the autocross track. I have only run 1 event with these tires/wheels so far. |
