I pre-fill my oil filter..I use 8 quarts plus appx. 3/4 of #9 qt. to dead nuts on top fill line.

Just did my second oil change at 4132 miles.

After she warms up to 200 on the oil temp, I shut her down and wait 15 minutes. I am kind of anal about 30 minute oil drains and 15 minute drainbacks.

nothing anal about it... its called being concerned and careful. lol

depending on the car, I've let my cars sit overnight draining to ensure full empty. tho only in non-humid weather in IL. never even thought about doing that down here in chucktown

update on oil capacity

Fyi after 45min drain on my lift and new amsoil oil filter ran 50 miles throughout entire system 8qts added was dead on full on dipstick?! So try 8qt b4 adding to much oil lot easier to add than to drain!

Well that's what a good filter is for is removeing particles! So if your gonna change say every 3000m or so just go cheap imo

Manual clearly states 8 qts. including filter. That's what I used. That is what gave me the correct reading on the dipstick. That is all.

I'm with you radz...I really dont feel good about going 10-12 months without changing the oil no matter what the manufacturer says. My car is almost a year old and its only got 6500 miles on it

Yes I may get slammed for this...but I took my car to Jiffy-Lube yesterday for an oil change. I have done my own oil changes my whole life except for the past couple years. I just had a magna charger put on friday and was in a pickle to get the oil changed before the weekend.

I was in shock to hear it was going to be $102...they did however use Mobil1 syn. I had no idea that thing holds 8 1/2 quarts. The boys did a good job in about 10 minutes. I had them change the oil only, no vaccum no window clean no top off fluids. The less oily finger prints the better.

Are you going to shoot GM, then?

Exactly, and this goes against what you said. Following the OLM% down to 5% puts my oil change at around 10,000 miles, yet you say you shouldn't go over 7,000. I think the GM engineers know what they are talking about.

$110 incl tax at the Mobil1 Quick Lube. You get to watch them do it and there's no oil to dispose of. $89 regular price, they want more for the extra quarts.

So, all of you guy claiming the engine takes 8.6qts of oil are saying that GM is lying in their owners manual? When I put my 8qrt in that my owners manual states I should, my dipstick always reads perfect.

I am not saying you guys are lying, but I really think you don't know what you're doing.
