A couple of questions for our mid west friends

Hey there everyone, we are heading down into Colorado in August fo the "Pinks All Out" on the 14th, and I am wondering as to what some of the laws are regarding my Camaro.
I will be going through Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.
Are Radar detectors eilegal in any of these states?
Are tinted windows eilegal in any of these states, and
Are any engine mods eilegal in any of these states?
Mods meaning:
LT headers, high flow cats, borla cat back, Roto-Fab CAI, and a tune??
Thanx for any heads up everyone, looking forward to driving though some fantastic areas down there and possibley racing in the "Pinks All Out".
see you all down there.

Think I can help you with the laws (for Colorado anyway). Radar detectors are not illegal though scramblers are. So just make sure it just picks up RADAR... but they're kind of silly anyway... by the time it's registering you've already been hit and pegged for your speed.

Tinted windshields are a no no. That's both the front and rear... the rear can sometimes be overlooked if below the percentage but technically speaking they're not supposed to be tinted. Front windows also can not be tinted beyond a percentage, but with the Camaro that means all of the cars windows.

Engine mods are not illegal unless they change the physical action of the car. For example if you have a blower or some other attachment that blocks out the windshield then that's a no no. But if it stays under the hood then you should be fine.

So do they inforce the tint quite strongly, or being that I am from out of state, and out of the country would they give a guy a break, providing I don't give them any other reasons to pull me over like speeding??

You'd probably be ok with most metro area Officers... State Troopers have a tendency to be a little more strict and may even have a tint meter to test it. It's a gamble, but if you're smooth you should be fine.

I have my windows tinted, Johnny Law does not usually harass folks unless they give them a reason.

Your Engine mods are no trouble either

Keep the speed to no more then 15 over, and you should be pretty good.

Colorado has a lot of transplant drivers, and most have no Idea how to use turn signals or mirrors, so watch for those folks as you roll up on them.

Good luck and have a fun trip!

The info on the tint is not 100% accurate, the laws for CO are as follows:

No tint on front windshield except a 4" 'visor' across the top.
You can have 27% maximum on all other windows tinted (used to be 35%).
However if you leave the front side windows untinted (driver's window and front passenger) and you have both side-view mirrors, the rear windows (small triangles and rear window) can be as dark as you want. If you wanted, you could even PAINT your rear windows as long as you have the front windows and side mirrors un-obstructed.

Check out here for more info on tint: http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html

Enforcement on the tint is hit/miss. I know several who have not had any encounters with tint and have had up to 5% on their cars, but I also have friends who had 20% on the fronts and the cops made them remove it or have the car towed because the officer would not let them drive it any further (I know because I was in the car with them). Remember that the percentage tint on the windows includes any factory glass tints, so if you put 30% film on your windows and the factory glass has a 10% tint already, you're not legal.

As far as speed goes, some places STRICTLY enforce speed (no more than 2-3 mph over), while others let you get away with up to 15 over but these areas are few and far between. Typically when cruising through CO, you can follow two basic rules: 1) keep up with traffic. If everyone is cruising at 80mph in a 65, tuck in and follow away. You will actually get flipped off/ brights flashed at/ cutoff if you are cruising the speed limit in the left lane in many areas. 2) Set the cruise control at no more than 5mph over the posted speed and you *should* be fine.
