Ford does not sell the GT500 for the profit. The sell it to keep enthusiasts happy. As stated earlier, the regular GT and V-6 models generate much more revenue and profit and are affordable to the masses.

I went to a car show yesterday and the old classic 67-68, 69, etc. Shelby Gt 500s reminded me of the true Shelby days. There is nothing "custom" about the current offering, except the name badge and the fact that it has a bunch of performance goodies bolted on at the factory.

I would welcome Chevy coming out with a Z-28 in with the CTS-V engine for around $45-50. Maybe that would get Ford to offer something different, like a 500hp normally aspirated Mustang.

And why can't the Corvette and GT500 be compared to each other? They are both marketed to similar audiences, regardless of what people say. And, who really buys a Mustang, GT500 or not, for the back seat?

Do they buy it for it? Not really, but it's a consideration between a Z and a Mustang or a Mustang and a Corvette.

Do you never think of when you might go out with friends or take co-workers to lunch or hell, even take the dogs to a play date or something?

My point is there are limited but legitimate uses for the back seat. I use my Camaro's back seat all the time... all be it for short distances which is why I would never buy a Vette.

I dont know if anyone cross shops Z/28's GT500's and Corvette's.

I had two criteria when I bought my car.

Hold my entire family.

Have enough power stock to scare most people so I don't have to void a factory warranty.

Can you do this in a Corvette?

These are my two boys in my 2011 Shelby. Life is to short to wait on GM forever.

This is pretty much my exact point. Though I think you need the SVT PP.

i would say, bottom line is that GM is still not out of the hole in terms of the financial crisis. so, this car is not going to be as exclusive as some might think or want. They are going to want to move a lot more units than their competitors, not only because they want to but because they need to. If you get the bare bones 1SS for 31K, I can’t see how they could make the car 20 thousand more dollars for a supercharger, tires, brakes, suspension. What is on the camaro now is pretty good, I don’t see the z28 being a 20 grand better car. Not if they are still trying to get out of the hole.

I’m also mostly praying that it is not that expensive because it will be out of reach for me at that point.

That is a very nice car you have there. I was so close to buying a 2010 when they changed the body but I decided to wait and see what chevy would do with the camaro to answer the gt500.

Sure looks to me like it says Supercharged on the fender emblem
Why does everyone think the name of this car will be officially called Z28,

I am guessing they will NOT use the z28 name plate.
I bet that covered up fender badge says something like Camaro ZL1 or SuperCharged SS or even Grand Sport as in Camaro GrandSport

Let the Z28 nameplate go and never be used again.................

why?

and why wouldn't they call it the z28? bad history for you? mistaken about the Z's placement in the hierarchy of things? why would the name the camaro something stupid like grandsport? that's a vette thing not a camaro thing. the ZL1 although BA isn't as well known as z28. . .

I'm confused why you'd want it to die. . .

I should have gotten a 2011 GT500 instead of my SS... and I can't get out from under it right now because the bitch that TBoned me cost me $7k in value and so I can't afford the loan it would take.

The supercharged engine alone is worth an extra $8000. A better suspension setup, perhaps $1500. Brakes? $2000 or so. Wheels and tires, probably $2000 as well. Various cosmetic changes, lets say thats $2500. Stronger transmission and drivetrain ... maybe $1500? Then figure in the cost of research and development, which we can't really tell but its going to be millions of dollars, divided by thousands of cars. Add it up and you're looking at $20,000 without too much hassle.

Agreed. $20k is an easy figure to get to even with cost sharing.

Sorry to say that a GT500, Mustang, Camaro, there isnt a lot of people that plan on it being a family car. Now Can you hold 4 people in some of them sure this that nice option maybe. But I would say that is not a big feature or motivation for most buyers

Motivation? No. Feature? Yeah, I bet it is a selling point to alot of people... and by alot of people I mean men, typically, selling it to their wives.
