Pulley size on a KB 2.8
How small of a pulley can you run on a KB 2.8 with stock 6 rib setup. I'm currently running a 3.75, but I have a 3.25 I want to try. Do you guys think it will spin it with much belt slip. BTW, this is on a forged LS1. in a 01 GMC truck.

I've sent him a couple emails and didn't get replies, so i thought I would ask here since this is the most active site I have found for KB blowers.
Anyone pulleying down on 6 rib setups??

I would call Kenne Bell's technical support. You will probably get an answer pretty fast.

Well, I went ahead and tried it and it sort of works, lol. I'm only making about 13-13.5lbs of boost and a bit of belt dusting, so I know its slipping some. Blower just takes too much power for a 6 rib to hold. Stretches the belt enough that the tensioner can't keep the belt tight enough for it not to slip a little. I have everything for the 8 rib setup but the balancer pulley, I just wish they weren't $550... :(

1psi for every 1/8 inch reduction in pulley size is what I believe Mike@kb said once.

I don't know how the ford and dodge folks deal with this with KB but please keep us up to date as things develop and good luck. I also just found this. Seems that to keep the KBs in control they went to great lengths. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-f...cket-pics.html

Making power with a blower and avoiding belt slip is always a problem.Happens with all the blowers. Getting 13lbs out of a blower without slip is good. Being dissapointed that you can't get 16lbs out of a 6 rib is just foolish.
Sounds like you need to make the jump to the 8 rib overdrive pulley. Not a big deal for the power/boost you want to push. |
