Personally I have one of each ... And for the extra $5K you get a lot more than just power. You get the brakes, suspension, front fascia, upgrade ability (more mods available) and fun factor. The gas mileage isn't that much different between the two, also the insurance is the same ... IMO the extra $5K if your making payments anyway is nothing over a 5 year period.

Since you say insurance and gas aren't an issue, 2SS is the choice, hands down. However, if you intend to drive it as a daily driver, you may want to go with the 2LT and save a few bucks. Many reviews praise the V6 as "the better car". It is said to handle better and is better suited to daily driving. You can't go wrong either way but based on the information you've given, I'd go 2SS.

I was in the same position as you last year. 20, first actual job that payed more than $10 an hour and a life savings that was burning a hole in my pocket. I went back and forth for about 2 weeks for SS or LT. In the end I knew that if I didn't get the SS I would look back. That whole "What if" factor. She's my daily driver and I probably only go to the track once a month ish, but even as a DD the extra 100 hp is a kick in the pants. Then again I'm rocking some mods and more mods on order. JMO

PS: If you look at the numbers of SS V8 and LT V6 sold it almost a 50/50 deal so that being said the forum is going to be around that.. What does that mean? You going to get about as many post telling you to go v8 as you do telling you to go v6.. Both great cars that is why the numbers produced are so close.. You will have to figure out what fits your life style.. When you get it don't forget to post us some pictures

I traded in my 08 Civic for a 2010 2SS and my insurance went DOWN $30 bucks a month. So insurance might not be as big of a deal as you think.

I heard that all in the beginning then I drove the 2LT and knew it was for me. If anyone gives you grief about not enough horsepower see if they have manual or automatic. Then point out how the v8 auto has 26 less horsepower than the manual. That usually takes care of the problem. Consider the winter tire issue if you go with the 2LT, that would be cheaper as you can fit the 18" wheels on there, and often find someone unloading their rims and tires. With the 2SS you have to get wheels that fit over the brembos. Are you going to brag about 1/4 mile races? Get the 2SS and get manual to have the highest horsepower. If you want a cool car that handles well, and has all the gadgets, the 2LT has them all. Here's something else to consider. My neighbor razzed me about not getting the v8. Then he drove the v6 and was quite impressed. Apparently one of the things that the v8 has is understeer. He said my v6 actually had oversteer. That might have something to do with the lighter weight. So something to consider there. I do respect his opinion as he takes his Mini cooper to the tracks a lot. The v6 can still throw someone back in their seat if you gun it. If the sound is what you are missing, the Corsa Cat back in my opinion makes the car sound like a V8.

I feel your pain brother...I too was in the same boat on which to pick up. In the end I went with the SS. Now it is the 1 SS but my main reason was power. I had a 66 Pontiac GTO when I was 19 and I fell in love with the old V8 muscle. The SS not only is superior to my GTO for power, but it's much more comfortable. But I would still give my left arm to get that car back.
Either car is going to make you happy. It's a Camaro, the question is....are you going to keep it for 20+ years....

He ended up going from the LT to the SS. Also, please do not consider getting a LT and changing the front fascia- not fond of "fake badging"....if you like the mail slot get the SS. But test drive both. Ultimately, at your age get what you like, can afford, and what works for you. |

Lots of opinions here. But, it's not what we're happy with - it's what you want to purchase.
Absolutely drive them both. I knew I wanted the 2SS all along even though mine is a daily driver, you won't ever hear me complain about an extra $3 per fillup. The hardest pick for me was the color there are so many awesome looking Camaro colors out there. Mods are available for both models. Get what YOU want and can afford without being strapped to your car (monthly payment, insurance and gas) - which can add up to $800-$1000 per month - depending on your down payment. Good luck, have fun with the test drives.. Lori |
