If you are truly happy with YOUR car, why come on here and bash other cars? Just do like I did and tell the guy to go test drive both, compare prices, cost of ownership, etc, and pick the one HE wants.
I dont bash any cars and this is not the reason im here, the reason im here is to read the forum and follow up with the new posts. The speed is not the only factor and im not sure why you're even arguing about it. What im saying is that it was really hard for those magazines to say in 2010 that the mustang is the better car even if they got paid in cash or in "ads" tons of money, simply because the 2010 mustangs (V6 & V8) didnt stand a chance infront of the 2010 Camaro but for the 2011 their job is much easier to argue that Mustangs are better in some ways than the 2011 Camaros. I dont race and im happy with my purchase and actually i couldnt be happier, i love my car and sometimes i just drive it for no reason with nowhere specific to go . I understand that you have a Stang and that you like it, so good for you, I like my car too, I could have got the mustang instead of the Camaro both V6s were in price range but I chose the Camaro for reasons.

Ford make 2 different GT models. 1 is a gt base car that does not have sync or leather. the other is the GT Premium. I couldn't find one for less then $30,000.00 in my area but they are out there.

Now I'm not bashing either car because I love cars all around, but I think that the Camaro would be the way to go. I chose the Camaro because of the looks. They stand out compared to all other cars. One more Mustang (nobody notices it around), but one new Camaro and everybody knows who you are.
Mustang GT comes with 3 different axles.
qtr mile times
3.73 runs about 12.7 (faster than Camaro)
3.55 runs about 13.0 (same as Camaro)
3.31 runs about 13.2 (slower than Camaro)

I don't see how it would be slower then an SS because of the price? If anything I would think it would be faster the then the GT premium due to less weight? I agree it would be less impressive without the leather but if your on a budget a Mustang Gt for around $30,000.00 or less is a great deal for performance you get.

I don't think you can get one with the performance upgrades for under $30k can you?

To the OP:
I have found that both Mustang and Camaro owners love their cars. That says something (you can't go wrong).

I was in the market for a new car too. It took me 3 test drive events to figure out which car I wanted.

I chose the Mustang, but it was definitely not a hands down winner. I have always liked the looks of the Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger. After 1st test drive, the Challenger was out, and the real contest was between Camaro and Stang.

Try them out, see what you like. Both cars have plenty of good points (and very few bad ones).

Lets put it this way....

If I were going to be buying a new pony car with the sole intention of building a 1/4 mile killer..I would get a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0. A light car that with an intake and tune alone is getting 420 RWHP, and with a few more bolt-ons (headers, exhaust) is getting 450+ RWHP..throw some sticky tires on that and you've got a low 12 or 12 second flat car.

If I were wanting something other than a Mustang but still wanted alot of mod potential and flashy "I stand out, look at me!" styling..I would go with the Camaro.

If I wanted a rare, ultra-retro car that has alot of power, is only slightly slower than the other two and will not be on every street corner..I'd go with the Challenger.

It depends on what you want and are willing to pay for.

I personally am happy with my ultra retro Challenger that turns heads, shreds tires (...$800 for new tires in a few weeks) and is extremely comfortable while turning in low 13's stock.

I don't know where you got those times, but the fastest stock 5.0 to date is a 3.31 running 12.5's. It looks like you just assumed the gear would knock 2 tenths off.

That's Internet racing at it's finest.

Here is my problem, under $30k around $30k, what ever. I don't really care if it has 400hp or 600hp. None of that matters. For performance, its all about traction. Ye who gets grip wins.

Is the 5.0 in the Mustang a good engine, yes. Is the 6.2 in the Camaro a good engine, of course. My sole issue while driving the GT was that factory tires suck beyond belief. No launch control of any kind and the tires didn't stick well at all. My Camaro is stock and they hook up VERY well. Corners, Mustang handles better that my Camaro, I can live with that.

I'm not a Mustang basher by any means, drove a 2010 Roush Barrett Jackson edition Stang and it was a BEAST! I mean WOW. Problem is, $70k+ is way outta my league. Then again, with $70k+ I'd get a Nissan GTR, which I have also driven, EATS this super Stang for lunch.

Anyway, while the new Mustang is nice, its still the same ole same ole in my book.

You wouldn't be able to get the ugrades like brembos for that price but you also don't get them in the GT premium unless you add them for even more money. I'm just saying that the base GT is one hell of a car for the money if you can't afford a 2SS Camaro or GT Premium.

Well you did say you knew most of us would be biased towards the camaro and yea we are biased after all this is a site dedicated to the camaro. And if I were to write a review on all 3 pony cars Id say go out and buy a camaro. But bottom line is this isn't about what car I want or what car any of the other people who posted here wants. Its about what car YOU want. If you want the camaro go out and get one and don't look back. If you want the mustang. Than more power to ya and I'll see you in my rear view mirror. Just do your homework before goin out to buy your car!

Where are you getting that number? Not that I don't believe you, just that I'd like to keep up with that (and similar) information as well.

Ill speak from experience since Ive had both. The Camaro IS a better car to drive. With that being said My mustang gt was a 2010 and didnt have the new power plant. And even still I wouldnt trade my camaro for the new 2011. I will also tell you that I have intake tune and exhaust. Nothing major. MAYBE 40hp extra. And I raced a 5.0 from a dead stop, 20 roll, 40 roll. And I beat him every time. Sometimes by 1 to 2 cars. Other times by 4 cars. I am not biased even though it may sound like it. I am telling the absolute truth . Best way for you to decide is go drive one yourself. Having said all that IF I was to sell my Camaro, Id be getting a 5.0... And for proof that I had a 2010. Here it is!
