Can someone explain what "4.5-link" means?
I did a search but couldn't find anything. What does Chevrolet mean when they refer to the rear suspension and say "Four-wheel independent suspension system, including a 4.5-link rear suspension"?
Thanks. |

From Wikipedia: "A multi-link suspension is a type of vehicle suspension design typically used in independent suspensions, using three or more lateral arms, and one or more longitudinal arms. These arms do not have to be of equal length, and may be angled away from their 'obvious' direction."
If you look at the picture below, there are 4 main attachment points and then it looks like a smaller one on the lower side (hard to tell from the picture angle). My guess is that smaller one is the .5 link. |

<<The rear suspension is unique to the Camaro and has been dubbed a "4.5-link independent" arrangement, also making use of progressive-rate coilover shocks and a stabilizer bar. While the lower control arm is a traditional wishbone style, the upper control arm uses an innovative L-shape for both lateral and longitudinal ride control instead of the extra "5th link.">>
