L99 Exhaust

Anybody with an L99, that is mostly stock have a cat-back exhaust and still have the AFM on? I think from what I have heard the AFM will really get on your nerves after awhile. I don't want to tune it out and void my warranty.
I was hoping to get the Borla ATAK cat-back, but didn't want to spend the money if the AFM is going to be a problem.
Thanks for the help, Eric

I just had a magnaflow 3" catback put on, it sounds great... but yes when cruising it does get a little annoying. I'm thinking of going back to the stock exhaust and changing to a little more quiet axle back...any suggestions from people with that setup would be appreciated.

I'm starting a coalition against AFM lol I want to go in to my dealer and convince them to tune it out so my head can rest in peace on long road trips...

I have the S type Borla catback and Borla Headers, NO CATS and I have a tune, but AFM is still active. I can't imagine it being so bad that you have to go back to stock. What a waste of money. It just doesn't bother me much. Certainly not enough to go back to stock.

How can we even be sure it would make that much of a difference tuning out AFM?

I installed a borla "s" type catback on my a6 and tuned out the afm the same day. It sounds horrible with any aftermarket exhaust from what people have stated on the forums. Before the borla system I had a muffler and resonator delete and it drove me nuts. I had to run in manual and paddle shift all the time to prevent it from kicking in. Now I throw her in drive and don't have a problem.

What exactly is the problem. I have the A6 as well and LOUD exhaust and I don't see what the deal is with AFM. I don't even notice it I guess. Either that ot it's always on and I'm used to it. How do you know when it 'Kicks' in. I used to think I knew, but if it's what I'm thinking of, it's minimal.

It is just relative to the individual person...many of these people are tuning before they even witness it themselves. Essentially they are voiding their warranties based STRICTLY on what people are saying on the internet....

You guys need to at least hear it yourselves first...many of you may not think it is that bad. If you give it a shot and it sucks, then tune it...no biggie. I respect the opinion of many people on this site because they are informative, but I will be dammed if I do something that would cause me to void based on personal opinions.

I'm guessing there aren't many who will tune SOLELY based on AFM. Maybe, but most who tune are doing it for other gains.

But, my exhaust does have a drone (doesn't bother me, drives Bonnie nuts when she's in my car) that is there when mildly accelerating. But I'm not sure that is AFM. If it is, it's on any time I'm not accelerating hard.

I have about 900 miles on my A6 and have yet to know or hear or feel when AFM is kicking in. Maybe I need to drive more to understand the "issue with AFM" but again I don't notice anything with my city and highway driving. I am currently saving for a catback exhaust upgrade next Spring and will not be doing anything that would void factory warranty... I purchased an extended bumper to bumper too. Just saying.

With stock exhaust I originally thought it was my tranny bogging. Trust me when AFM kicks in with aftermarket exhaust you'll know it. You're coasting along minding your own business. All of a sudden it feels like your engine fell off and your suddenly driving a Diesel truck.

Again, I have Long Tube Headers, no cats, and an agressive exhaust. I never feel this.

I have LT, no cats, Borla catback. You should be thankful for that
