Replacing stock BA amp

I installed a Kicker RS 6.5in component kit in the front doors today, but the BA amp is filtering them way too much... So my solution is to just replace the amp with a small 4 channel amp. Do you have any suggestions on good small amps that could fit where the BA amp is now. Do you think there would be any problems doing this? Someone was talking about loosing functions like chime if removing stock amp, but that sounds strange to me...

Not cheap, but the JL HD750/1 fits on the opposite side, behind the panel. The HD600/4 is the same size and should fit. I hear the new XD series are small, too.

You may need an external passive cross-over since the rear 6x9 and tweeters are fed through separate outputs from the stock amp. If you're going that far, include a processor to clean up the headunit signal before adding the amp. Then, replace the rear speakers, too.

In the end, it's all relative to your expectations and budget. There's a lot of small amps with varying power and quality. In the end, do your best research and have no regrets.

The filtering that I hear in the front is that done in the BA amp or in the head unit? Question is: will I get the full spectrum if I connect the low level to a new amp, or is it already filtered at the low level? (I would assume in the amp but it would suck if I install a new amp and it was already filtered)

I found another JL amp which seems to fit well, the XD400/4. Do you know anything about this amp? It seems to have good specs. and a very small foot print.

I just ordered a JL Audio XD400/4 amplifier and a set of Soundstream SST6.9 speakers for the rear. So I hope that the low levels indeed are unfiltered...

Yes please tell us. Details, pics, quality? This would make a great DIY if it all worked out. I know a lot of people would be interested in replacing the stock amp

I have that same amp on order now. Although I'll be sticking with the stock speakers. I'll post up when I get it installed.
