L99: Cam or Forced Induction?
I realize that by posting this in the forced induction category I may be asking for a skewed response... and that's ok
![]() I've been slowly saving some extra funds to do either a nice cam (from Livernois - 20 min. from home) or a twin turbo or supercharger setup. I'm pretty familiar with the drawbacks and benefits of each. Question of the day: Since I know that I'd eventually cam my ride anyway, would it be more appropriate to spend a little less money and just do the cam for now? Or should I pony up and make her angry by dropping the big bucks on FI? What would you do? What kind of power can I get from a *real* cam in my L99 without sacrificing driveability? Either way I win

Yes, you do win either way. To not do some of the work twice, I'd do both as a package deal. Might save you a few bucks.
EDIT: It will save you more than a few bucks. It will probably have to be tuned after the cam swap and then again after the 'charger addition. |

Im in the same boat as you but I decided to go with the mast motorsports VVT stage 2 cam package and DOD delete, I guess it's all personal preference

I've been told that by adding a cam to the L99 FI should yield between 70 rwhp to 100 rwhp....again, I was told that on my twin turbo setup, don't think it would be different for s/c set up

The power gain depends totally on the cam chosen and the boost level chosen. You won't see 70 rwhp gain adding a ZR1 cam to an LS3 or L99 motor on 6psi. Adding same cam with 10psi MIGHT get you closer to those numbers.

I went with spray instead of cam. I may do a cam later but a small 75 shot will give you 75 rwhp only when you want it. Just my 2 cents.

One thing to think of .. if you go cam first, make it a f/i friendly cam or down the road if you go f/i you will have to replace it anyways ..
